How to Care for your Sheets

There is nothing quite like slipping into cloud-like sheets at the end of a long day! However, sometimes it can be tricky to keep them white, bright, and stain free. So if you’re looking for tips on keeping your bedding clean, you have come to the right place.

At Coley Home, our Bedding Bundle is one of our favorite products. These 500 thread count sheets detailed with charcoal piping are all you need to make certain that you will have a good night's sleep every night. That being said, we want to make sure that they last as long as possible. We have thought of a few tips and tricks to ensure that yours do too!

Treat Stains ASAP

Coffee in bed is our favorite way to start the day! Spilling coffee on our bed...not so much. No worries though, because it is an easy fix. Treat stains immediately using a water-free solvent, like The Laundress Stain Solution! Minerals in water could possibly leave unwanted rings around the stain.

Don’t Overstuff the Washer

Washing your sheets alone is key in prolonging their lifespan. We know throwing everything in at once is time saving, but avoid overstuffing the washing machine with towels and clothes. You may risk snags from zippers along with color bleeding. Remember, the more water, the better!

Say No to Heat

Have you noticed your sheets are fitting too loosely? It is probably because you are washing them in hot water too often. While washing on hot is great for killing bacteria after you are sick, too much heat actually weakens the fibers of the sheets, decreasing their lifetime. Make sure that you are washing them weekly in warm/cold water. Dry on low heat and remove ASAP to help prevent wrinkles.

Skip the Bleach

Believe it or not, bleach can actually wear down the fibers in the sheets and cause yellowing over time. We suggest adding about a half-cup of either white vinegar or baking soda to your normal laundry detergent.

Try Adding Some Vitamin D

Sun is not only good for yourself, but it is also great for your sheets! Take advantage of the next sunny day you have and allow your bedding to air-dry in the sun. You should notice a bright boost from the natural sunlight.
