Tell us about yourselves & how you got to where you are today! Trudy was born and raised in Piqua, Ohio, though people are often surprised I’m not a born and bred Southern belle. I currently lead Huff Harrington Design as Lead Designer, where I bring a refined design sensibility, thoughtful approach, and a little optimism to every project. Before fully stepping into interiors, I honed my spacial design skills through l leadership roles with brands including Gap, Spanx, and Serena & Lily. Frequent trips to France – where I assist with international design projects and installations – have shaped my signature approach: blending old and new with a playful, unexpected twist. Outside the office, you’ll often find me strolling Chastain Park with my handsome Lab, Beau, or enjoying a lively dinner out with my husband, glass of bubbly in hand. Emma Caroline Lee has spent years with Huff Harrington honing her eye through countless design projects. Prior to that she tackled the world of luxury PR launching fine art, fashion and hospitality brands in Atlanta. While her heart lies with traditional themes she loves to create a mix and to elevate designs through fabrics and custom pieces, building a story around our clients’ existing furnishings. Her love of classic and traditional design is a perfect complement to the Huff Harrington mix of antique and modern. When she’s not designing, you can find her spending time with her adorable young family or traveling. One of the most meaningful parts of our work is connecting with clients. We take the time to really listen, understand their stories and the pieces they love, and translate their vision into spaces that feel personal, sophisticated, and always chic. You recently selected 2 Twin Claremont Beds - Charles with a fabulous brushed fringe. Walk us through the design process! One of the elements that grounded the design of the room from the very beginning was a fabulous imported antique settee we found in the South of France. Its sassy curves immediately set the tone, so it was important for us to find bed frames that echoed that curvy softness – the Charles did just that. As with any successful space, the devil is in the details. We had the most fun marrying the bed frames and settee through coordinating fabrics - ultimately choosing a stripe for the beds to bring in a tailored note. To soften the structured stripe - and of course adding a touch of unexpectedness - we finished the headboards with a brushed fringe trim from Samuel & Sons. Layered against the Farrow & Ball high-gloss walls, the subtle movement and texture was the perfect final touch, elevating the beds while tying the entire room together beautifully. The Claremont bed - Charles How would you describe your style? Classic at its core, with a deep reverence for both contemporary and antique influences. You have a design branch in both Atlanta and Paris. Do you often try to incorporate European influences throughout your design projects in the US? It truly works both ways – we’re constantly inspired by both sides of the pond. That said, there’s something especially compelling about incorporating a piece of French history into our state-side projects. A beautiful European antique has an effortless way of adding depth, soul and a bit of “crunch” when layered into a modern or traditional home. We always aim for a home that feels classic and lived-in. If you had to pick one, what is your favorite project to date? That’s a difficult question, as each project is deeply personal to each client. Knowing their story, understanding the heirlooms they cherish, and creating designs that reflect their lives make every project meaningful in its own way. What aspect of Parisian lifestyle do you adopt in your everyday life? I’ve always admired the ease of the French lifestyle – lingering over meals, choosing quality over quantity, and treating everyday rituals as small indulgences. And of course, there’s the skincare… a daily reminder that a good cream can, in fact, solve almost everything! What’s a wallpaper or fabric you are dying to use in a project? Tough question because there are so many that are on our radar but I recently stumbled across the most adorable wallpaper by Jordan Connelly that would be the perfect addition to a family vacation home. Favorite coffee table book? Well, at the moment , we are gushing over the most recent Atlanta Homes & Lifestyle magazine because Huff Harrington Design made the cover! What is your most requested design feature? ‘The Mix’ of new & old The mix – layering new with old to create spaces that feel collected, not decorated. It’s about balancing contemporary pieces with character-rich antiques to achieve spaces that are timeless, personal, and truly lived-in.

While searching high and low for inspiration in the early stages of Coley Home, I kept hearing about how captivating India was with its intricate architecture, bustling markets, fine jewelry, and of course, luxurious textiles! We had to make the trip. Below is an itinerary of our trip, and in it you will find the places that inspired many of the Coley Home fabrics and other products. If you take away one thing from this itinerary, let it be this: GET A TOUR GUIDE! We used Discovery Full Circle Tours and they were outstanding! February 8After 22+ hours in the air, we finally landed in Delhi. We checked into The Imperial Hotel, and it was the perfect place to get a good night's rest and prepare for our Friday excursions. Jama Masjid Market, New Delhi February 9Fully rested, we met our trusty guide, Manjit! He led us to the Jama Masjid (Friday Mosque). It is the largest and best-known mosque in India and a beautiful example of Mughal architecture. The front facade boasts a beautiful view of three domes on the terrace, enclosed by two minarets. The mosque is right next to a buzzing market. We rode tuk-tuks through the market and were mesmerized by the organized chaos! Still not sure how it works, but it does! After lunch, we drop out to Panipat for a meeting with one of our vendors. This city of Panipat is known as “City of Weavers” and “Textile City.” I’ve never seen an operation like it: the most amazing colors and endless rows of looms! Each vendor we met was kind and made the visit so enjoyable. After a jam-packed day, we got back to our hotel completely exhausted BUT satisfied with the product we found, including the stonewashed linen napkins, and baby blankets. The Taj Mahal, Agra February 10After breakfast, we packed and headed to one of the seven wonders of the world, the TAJ MAHAL! The countryside was beautiful and a drastic change from New Delhi. We checked into our hotel, The Oberoi Amarvilas and had a delicious lunch by the pool. The hotel describes itself as “a front row seat to a timeless story,” which we found to be true! With breathtaking views of the Taj, and wonderful service, you cannot go wrong with The Oberoi Amarvilas. We stayed for one night - plenty of time for sightseeing in Agra. Watching the sunrise over the Taj Mahal is an experience I will never forget! February 11Next up, Jaipur! The usual route to Jaipur is a little over four hours, but the local Tak (sheep) herders were protesting and blocking the highways. After a few detours through the countryside and a 10-hour road trip - we arrived in Jaipur. Estimated Time of Arrival was not a thing in India! When we finally got to our hotel, we were beyond amazed. Our suite at the Sujan Rajmahal Palace was breathtaking and conveniently located in the heart of Rajasthan’s “Pink City.” The decor was incredibly inspiring and breathtaking. The Palace is owned by the royal family of Jaipur and has recently been renovated. You have to eat in the 51 shades of pink restaurant - you’ll feel like royalty! The Pink City was my favorite place we visited and the Sujan made it such a delightful, stress-free stay. Amber Fort. Jaipur February 12 On our first full day in Jaipur, we headed to the ancient Amber Fort. This is a must-see! I’ve never seen such elaborate architecture. Lots of inspiration for headboard shapes here! They also had a sewer system and running water - they were so ahead of their time! (Don’t forget the beautiful mirrored disco!) Sign me up! In the afternoon we headed to City Palace and had a tour of the Royal Family’s home. The City Palace, Jaipur Hand Block Printing, Jaipur February 13On our second day in Jaipur, we spent the day shopping and visiting fabulous fabric and jewelry emporiums. See a list of Jaipur shopping recommendations at the bottom of this post! February 14After breakfast, we visited Patrika’s Gate, the most beautiful colorful door and headed to the airport to fly to Jodhpur (The Blue City). We weren’t able to get a room at the RAAS Hotel during our trip, but I highly recommend it for dinner, if not a stay! The RAAS Hotel is timeless and located inside Jodhpur’s old town, boasting its original infrastructure yet upgraded to be a lux haven and only accessible by tuk-tuk. Once settled in, we headed out to visit the Umaid Bhawan Palace. The palace is where the royal family of Jodhpur lives and is the world’s largest private residence. February 15After breakfast we headed to the Mahrangarh Fort, a former palace that’s now a museum, featuring weapons, paintings and elaborate royal palanquins (sedan chairs). The fort overlooks the walled city, where many buildings are painted the city’s iconic shade of blue. In the afternoon, we visited the shops at Old Town and shopped for textiles! February 16Our trip was coming to an end. We packed our bags and headed back to New Delhi for our final night in India. We spent the day at the spa and pool at The Imperial Hotel. If you have a few free hours, a trip to the spa is always worth it! February 17We enjoyed our last breakfast in India and took in the last few views of this fascinating country. WHY I BUILT IT If you told me a year ago that I would have moved back to Charlotte, started my own company, and have a patent-pending “invention”, I'd look at you like you were crazy - but here we are! We traded a Brooklyn apartment for a house with a yard, and compressing headboards is my daily norm! I started planning Coley Home long before we decided to head south, but this was the perfect time to bring it to life. Plus, with North Carolina being the furniture capital of the world, we knew all of our resources would be right down the road! As I’ve mentioned before, I was so frustrated while furnishing my New York apartment. I was tired of couches taking 10 weeks to arrive, beds with a million pieces and parts, and forget about bringing a headboard up five winding flights of stairs. I knew there was a solution for these inconveniences, especially the bulky headboard. After all, people were getting king size mattresses delivered in boxes that were the size of table lamps! It seemed as if the foam mattresses were following me - I saw ads on the subway and all over social media, and I couldn’t help but think that I could bring this concept to headboards, too. With my background in textiles, I knew I could find a way to make these upholstered headboards out of the finest fabrics AND out of 100% foam - this was unheard of. HOW I BUILT IT Looking back on it, there’s no way that product development could have been possible in NYC. We met with countless vendors to find a foam that was not only sturdy, but also resilient. Compressing and rolling the foam is not exactly a gentle process- so this foam had to come back to shape. At one point, I think we had 8 different cuts of foam that we were comparing. We are self-proclaimed foam experts! Next was the headboard compressing machine. This was a doozy. Not only was it a huge financial investment, but how were we going to figure out how to work it? We sourced the compression and rolling machine first in the US- but as a start up no one has six figures to hand over. A Chinese machine was our best bet. One day we’ll share the story of how we physically got this machine into the warehouse. We’ll let you just imagine it for now: a team of girls and a two-ton machine. Thanks @carolinacat! As we got going, we toyed with the idea of developing an entire bed that was shippable, easy to assemble, and completely custom. If we were already knee deep in the headboard, why not go for the slam dunk with an entire bed? We worked with a local engineering firm that helped me translate my Photoshop cads into real-life prototypes. We started out with a wooden frame that required tools and screws, but we knew it could be streamlined even more - we needed this assembly to be seamless. After we snapped a few bed legs, collapsed a few frames, and completely exhausted our prototyping budget, we’d finally created a tool-free lock-in method for assembling the bed frame. The bed industry is a HUGE ocean, and it didn't take us long to realize that we are the little fishes. However, we believe that our high-quality fabric line and beautiful customized options set us apart. I’m a huge fan of the How I Built This podcast. I have been completely inspired by the stories of individuals who have created amazing products and brands by working hard, dreaming big, and persevering. But the host, Guy Raz, said it best: “I’ve learned that the way you think it is going to work out never matches the reality of how it works out. It’s always much much harder than you think it’s going to be.” I can’t wait to share more of the How I Built This story via the Coley Collective, and maybe one day you’ll hear me on the podcast- until then I’ll keep riding this learning curve :) A compressed headboard. I'm Coley Collett Hull, the founder of Coley Home. We are so excited to share all of the exciting things happening here: design inspiration, beautiful bedrooms, tips and tricks, and more! In our inaugural post, we thought we would dive right into our story. How did this company come about, and what prompted us to finally take the plunge and launch Coley Home? For as long as I can remember, the furniture industry has been a major part of my life. My grandparents started a furniture company that boasted timeless upholstered pieces that continue to shape the design world today. I followed their path and studied textile design at NC State, then went on to develop a fabric line for a company based out of NYC. While living in New York, I was constantly frustrated by the process of decorating and furnishing my apartment. Most custom upholstered pieces took 6-8 weeks to ship, tack on the white glove delivery expense, and the headache of lugging furniture five narrow staircases. The total price tag for these beautiful custom pieces started to outweigh the benefits of the design-oriented apartment. I loved how “Bed in a Box” companies made it easy to get a mattress, but what about the rest of your bed? What if you don’t want a metal bed frame? My tiny bedroom in the city was the only space that was truly mine to decorate, and I wanted it to be a space that I loved. Millennials, myself included, hate waiting. We love instant gratification.
