Tell us about yourselves & how you got to where you are today! Trudy was born and raised in Piqua, Ohio, though people are often surprised I’m not a born and bred Southern belle. I currently lead Huff Harrington Design as Lead Designer, where I bring a refined design sensibility, thoughtful approach, and a little optimism to every project. Before fully stepping into interiors, I honed my spacial design skills through l leadership roles with brands including Gap, Spanx, and Serena & Lily. Frequent trips to France – where I assist with international design projects and installations – have shaped my signature approach: blending old and new with a playful, unexpected twist. Outside the office, you’ll often find me strolling Chastain Park with my handsome Lab, Beau, or enjoying a lively dinner out with my husband, glass of bubbly in hand. Emma Caroline Lee has spent years with Huff Harrington honing her eye through countless design projects. Prior to that she tackled the world of luxury PR launching fine art, fashion and hospitality brands in Atlanta. While her heart lies with traditional themes she loves to create a mix and to elevate designs through fabrics and custom pieces, building a story around our clients’ existing furnishings. Her love of classic and traditional design is a perfect complement to the Huff Harrington mix of antique and modern. When she’s not designing, you can find her spending time with her adorable young family or traveling. One of the most meaningful parts of our work is connecting with clients. We take the time to really listen, understand their stories and the pieces they love, and translate their vision into spaces that feel personal, sophisticated, and always chic. You recently selected 2 Twin Claremont Beds - Charles with a fabulous brushed fringe. Walk us through the design process! One of the elements that grounded the design of the room from the very beginning was a fabulous imported antique settee we found in the South of France. Its sassy curves immediately set the tone, so it was important for us to find bed frames that echoed that curvy softness – the Charles did just that. As with any successful space, the devil is in the details. We had the most fun marrying the bed frames and settee through coordinating fabrics - ultimately choosing a stripe for the beds to bring in a tailored note. To soften the structured stripe - and of course adding a touch of unexpectedness - we finished the headboards with a brushed fringe trim from Samuel & Sons. Layered against the Farrow & Ball high-gloss walls, the subtle movement and texture was the perfect final touch, elevating the beds while tying the entire room together beautifully. The Claremont bed - Charles How would you describe your style? Classic at its core, with a deep reverence for both contemporary and antique influences. You have a design branch in both Atlanta and Paris. Do you often try to incorporate European influences throughout your design projects in the US? It truly works both ways – we’re constantly inspired by both sides of the pond. That said, there’s something especially compelling about incorporating a piece of French history into our state-side projects. A beautiful European antique has an effortless way of adding depth, soul and a bit of “crunch” when layered into a modern or traditional home. We always aim for a home that feels classic and lived-in. If you had to pick one, what is your favorite project to date? That’s a difficult question, as each project is deeply personal to each client. Knowing their story, understanding the heirlooms they cherish, and creating designs that reflect their lives make every project meaningful in its own way. What aspect of Parisian lifestyle do you adopt in your everyday life? I’ve always admired the ease of the French lifestyle – lingering over meals, choosing quality over quantity, and treating everyday rituals as small indulgences. And of course, there’s the skincare… a daily reminder that a good cream can, in fact, solve almost everything! What’s a wallpaper or fabric you are dying to use in a project? Tough question because there are so many that are on our radar but I recently stumbled across the most adorable wallpaper by Jordan Connelly that would be the perfect addition to a family vacation home. Favorite coffee table book? Well, at the moment , we are gushing over the most recent Atlanta Homes & Lifestyle magazine because Huff Harrington Design made the cover! What is your most requested design feature? ‘The Mix’ of new & old The mix – layering new with old to create spaces that feel collected, not decorated. It’s about balancing contemporary pieces with character-rich antiques to achieve spaces that are timeless, personal, and truly lived-in.

Meet Windy O'Connor! Windy is an artist based in Charlotte, NC who creates the most gorgeous abstract pieces. Not only does she paint beautiful, eclectic art collections, she turns those pieces into incredible home furnishings. We recently got to collaborate with Windy, Peachy the Magazine, and Designer Holly Phillips on a Crown Bed Giveaway, and we could not be more in love with how her "Birds of a Feather" fabric turned out on the Kate Crown Bed! We got a chance to pick Windy's brain about her fabulous career and what inspires her most. When did you start painting and how did you turn it into a career? I have been “artsy” for as long as I can remember. My parents were creative people as well. When my children were both old enough to go to school, I started taking painting classes with an incredible teacher and artist, Andy Braitman. I became hooked immediately! I would sign up for workshops and take any class that I could find. What has been the most challenging part of starting a small business? Getting over your fears and embracing the learning curves. One piece of advice for young entrepreneurs? Running your own business is not for the faint of heart. Remain open to all of the possibilities and dream big. What is the most inspiring place you have ever visited? Paris is that city for me. There is so much inspiration everywhere in Paris. Beauty and culture are everywhere on every level of living in Paris. Favorite recipe? My favorite and most cherished recipe is my mother’s 10-13 layer chocolate cake. I love that cake the most when my mother makes it. Favorite Movie? It’s A Wonderful Life. Favorite Color? Oh! That is a difficult one! I am fascinated by color and all of the complexity and beauty of various colors and color combinations. I love them all! It is a like asking me to choose a favorite child. Ideal Saturday? My ideal Saturday is waking up full of hope and adventure on vacation in a new place. I think that I am drawn to that idea more than ever due to fact that we can’t easily travel this year. Favorite designers? There are so many talented designers! Some of my favorites are John Saladino, Axel Vervoordt, Susan Ferrier, Ray Booth and Bobby McAlpine, Kit Kemp and Kelly Wearstler. We love the "Birds of a feather" print you choose to put on our bed. Could you tell us a little more about this pattern and how it came to life? Thank you so much! I love that fabric on your Coley Home bed! This pattern was born out of my love for traditional design and the desire to broaden my textile and wallpaper line. We are obsessed with your pillows! What are your favorite ways to use throw pillows on beds? How many pillows do you typically like to use on a king, Queen, and Twin? I have tried so many variations of pillows on my beds and I love a layered bed. For a twin, a sleeping pillow, plus a pillow with a sham and a decorative pillow is very pretty. For a queen bed I love 4 pillows plus a lumbar or a couple of bolster pillows. If I am dressing a king size bed, I love 2-4 pillows plus, a medium or long lumbar pillow. If you were going to create a Coley Home bed what would you choose? I am planning on placing an order! I really love Luxe Velvet Shadow with Luxe Velvet Mushroom piping with Ebony legs. For a couple's small master bedroom, a little refresh goes a long way. When it came to furnishing their first home together, the bedroom was low on the priority list. This summer, the room finally got the attention it deserved, and The Crown Bed added some much-needed color to the space. Below, the customer walks us through her choices: Before For so long, I thought neutral colors were the end-all-be-all when it came to decorating my home. However, the absence of color in this space made the room feel barren. Our original bed was my husband's before we were married, and it was way too bulky for the compact room. We wanted to maximize our space, but a king bed was non-negotiable. After Breaking away from my all-neutral tendencies, I chose The Henry Crown Bed in Luxe Velvet Olive with Robin's Egg piping. With such a white canvas behind the bed, the depth of the Olive Green gave the room the dimension it needed. The sleek, modern frame of The Crown Bed (we still went for the king) gave us about two extra feet of space that was previously occupied by the large frame of our old bed. Plush Pillows We added Como Robin's Egg Euros with Como Kelly Green piping, then layered a King pillow in Pinstripe Gray Mist with a moss monogram. My childhood bedroom was light blue and light green, so subconsciously I was drawn to a more mature version of the same color scheme. The Finishing Touches We added the Coley Home bedding bundle into the mix, and it is hands-down the softest bedding I have ever slept on! After about a year of living in our house, we finally hung curtains and added art. What a difference it makes! We went with curtains from Pottery Barn, and though they are not custom-made, the black-out lining makes them feel more substantial. As a final touch, we hung a print from one of my favorite artists, Teil Duncan.

We are excited to introduce our Designer Spotlight series, where we chat with some of the interior designers who inspire us the most. First up: MA Allen! MA Allen Recognized this year as one of House Beautiful's 2020 Next Wave Designers, MA has made a splash in the interior design world. Her use of vibrant color, eclectic accents, and her ability to tie rooms together with both modern and traditional pieces makes her stand out among the crowd. MA's firm is based in Raleigh, North Carolina, and she has three adorable kids, loves to cook, and inspires us daily with her disciplined exercise routines. What is the most inspiring place you have ever visited? I love Southeast Asia - Vietnam, particularly Hanoi, is so culturally rich - inspiration abounds at every corner. Where do you find inspiration for your design projects? Travel is a huge source of inspiration for me which makes this current situation challenging on a whole other level. You recently moved into your new home, and you have been documenting the renovation process through your IGTV series, "Lakestone Love." What was your inspiration behind Lakestone Love and what has been your favorite room to work on? My family has been my main inspiration behind this project, mixed with inspiration from travel. There is evidence of inspiration from Paris throughout, as we traveled there shortly after we closed on Lakestone. Every inch has been designed for our personalities, how we live, what makes us happy, weaving in heirlooms with vintage collections and bold prints and letting it all tell our story. It feels like each room is still a work in progress and each has been a joy to design. The Ladies Lounge was always a favorite for me in the design process. And it’s where I have spent hours on video calls and design work each day. One tip to first time home owners on a budget? Make a splash with paint. It’s the most cost effective way to make maximum impact. If you don’t have the patience to do a whole room, paint your interior doors for an unexpected touch. Quick-Fix to any room to add some pizazz? Add a custom lampshade in a fun print fabric. Advice for keeping a routine during COVID-19? Keeping a routine is the only thing that has kept me sane. I wake up at the same time every morning, work out first thing in my home gym instead of studio fitness places, get dressed, and make the bed! Any days I’ve had during quarantine that have felt off were those when I didn’t start my day off right. I have to get it right in the morning. One easy home improvement project to focus on while at home? How can I name only one? There are so many! Without spending a dime, you can invest your own time into polishing door hardware. My secret weapon is a common Worcestershire sauce from the grocery to bring a sheen back to brass. You can also remove paint covered hinges and strip the paint to lovingly restore their shiny metal finish. Something positive that has happened during this trying time? It’s been uplifting to see how communities and people have come together to support each other. Small businesses are banding together. People are connecting more. I think these are connections that will persist. Favorite Recipe? I love to cook so spending time in the kitchen is not much of a change for me. With less time than normal, as I balance, work and homeschooling, I am really loving any one bowl meal that I can sell my family on. This chopped salad bowl is one of them with Green Goddess Dressing adapted from It’s All Good. It’s hearty and filling and satisfying for everyone. Mexican Green Goddess Dressing adapted from It’s All Good 2/3 cup of vegan yogurt (Check for no added sugars! We like forager cashew yogurt) 1/4 cup picked cilantro 2 scallions, chopped 1/4 cup fresh squeezed lime juice 1 jalapeño, seeds removed (seeds are what make it overly spicy!) 1/3 cup EVOO 1/2 tsp Himalayan sea salt 1 T raw honey Salad: You can use this dressing on nearly any salad but I like to pair it with chopped romaine, cilantro, sliced radishes, shredded carrots, cherry tomatoes, black beans, and toasted pepita seeds. It makes for an easy one bowl meal that’s filling and satisfying. Siete almond flour tortilla chips on the side or broken over the top if you want to add some crunch. This recipe makes plenty for the salad and leaves extra which saves well in the fridge for about a week. The kids love it as a dip for veggies. Favorite Movie? Sadly, I feel like I never have time, but I’m quick to jump into a new Netflix series. Most recently, Outer Banks, which is by far one of the worst television show I have ever subjected myself to. It’s focused on North Carolina, so keeps me interested, but I never would have watched before COVID-19. MA designed her daughter's room with twin Crown Beds. Change out your sheets. Nothing is more welcoming than soft, smooth sheets. Purchase a designated set (or two) just for your guest bedroom.
