Tell us about yourselves & how you got to where you are today! Trudy was born and raised in Piqua, Ohio, though people are often surprised I’m not a born and bred Southern belle. I currently lead Huff Harrington Design as Lead Designer, where I bring a refined design sensibility, thoughtful approach, and a little optimism to every project. Before fully stepping into interiors, I honed my spacial design skills through l leadership roles with brands including Gap, Spanx, and Serena & Lily. Frequent trips to France – where I assist with international design projects and installations – have shaped my signature approach: blending old and new with a playful, unexpected twist. Outside the office, you’ll often find me strolling Chastain Park with my handsome Lab, Beau, or enjoying a lively dinner out with my husband, glass of bubbly in hand. Emma Caroline Lee has spent years with Huff Harrington honing her eye through countless design projects. Prior to that she tackled the world of luxury PR launching fine art, fashion and hospitality brands in Atlanta. While her heart lies with traditional themes she loves to create a mix and to elevate designs through fabrics and custom pieces, building a story around our clients’ existing furnishings. Her love of classic and traditional design is a perfect complement to the Huff Harrington mix of antique and modern. When she’s not designing, you can find her spending time with her adorable young family or traveling. One of the most meaningful parts of our work is connecting with clients. We take the time to really listen, understand their stories and the pieces they love, and translate their vision into spaces that feel personal, sophisticated, and always chic. You recently selected 2 Twin Claremont Beds - Charles with a fabulous brushed fringe. Walk us through the design process! One of the elements that grounded the design of the room from the very beginning was a fabulous imported antique settee we found in the South of France. Its sassy curves immediately set the tone, so it was important for us to find bed frames that echoed that curvy softness – the Charles did just that. As with any successful space, the devil is in the details. We had the most fun marrying the bed frames and settee through coordinating fabrics - ultimately choosing a stripe for the beds to bring in a tailored note. To soften the structured stripe - and of course adding a touch of unexpectedness - we finished the headboards with a brushed fringe trim from Samuel & Sons. Layered against the Farrow & Ball high-gloss walls, the subtle movement and texture was the perfect final touch, elevating the beds while tying the entire room together beautifully. The Claremont bed - Charles How would you describe your style? Classic at its core, with a deep reverence for both contemporary and antique influences. You have a design branch in both Atlanta and Paris. Do you often try to incorporate European influences throughout your design projects in the US? It truly works both ways – we’re constantly inspired by both sides of the pond. That said, there’s something especially compelling about incorporating a piece of French history into our state-side projects. A beautiful European antique has an effortless way of adding depth, soul and a bit of “crunch” when layered into a modern or traditional home. We always aim for a home that feels classic and lived-in. If you had to pick one, what is your favorite project to date? That’s a difficult question, as each project is deeply personal to each client. Knowing their story, understanding the heirlooms they cherish, and creating designs that reflect their lives make every project meaningful in its own way. What aspect of Parisian lifestyle do you adopt in your everyday life? I’ve always admired the ease of the French lifestyle – lingering over meals, choosing quality over quantity, and treating everyday rituals as small indulgences. And of course, there’s the skincare… a daily reminder that a good cream can, in fact, solve almost everything! What’s a wallpaper or fabric you are dying to use in a project? Tough question because there are so many that are on our radar but I recently stumbled across the most adorable wallpaper by Jordan Connelly that would be the perfect addition to a family vacation home. Favorite coffee table book? Well, at the moment , we are gushing over the most recent Atlanta Homes & Lifestyle magazine because Huff Harrington Design made the cover! What is your most requested design feature? ‘The Mix’ of new & old The mix – layering new with old to create spaces that feel collected, not decorated. It’s about balancing contemporary pieces with character-rich antiques to achieve spaces that are timeless, personal, and truly lived-in.

We get LOTS of requests for upholstered daybeds, so when we designed a bedroom for a lively little boy, we were excited to do some experimenting! By combining our King Crown headboard with our Twin platform bed frame, we created a quick-and-easy daybed oozing with style. We had the best time scheming this handsome haven. When it came to choosing fabric for the daybed, Safari, Khaki was a no-brainer and screamed "all boy". Playing off the colors in the camo-like fabric, we used warm-toned Luxe Velvets and Hair on Hide for pillows, creating masculine depth and texture that the two year old will love for years to come. Because our Crown headboard requires no attaching to the bed frame, we were magically able to place our all-foam slipcovered King Crown Headboard behind the long side of our twin bed frame. For the finishing touches, we added in the oh-so-stylish Teeny Swivel in Pinstripe, Gray Mist with Hair on Hide outback, and one of our upholstered ottomans, the Lil Ottoman in Safari, Khaki to match the bed!

There is a separate box for the custom upholstered bed frame, slipcovered headboard, and mattress. (Our memory foam mattress is sold separately from the Crown Bed). Our crown headboard is compressed into a small box and shipped via UPS in less than 10 days. Q: The headboard arrives in a box? How does it work?A: Our custom slipcovered headboard is made of durable, expanding foam. We compress it in our facility to fit inside the UPS box. Once it arrives at your door, remove the packaging, and let it expand. Watch it resiliently come back to life, then slip on your custom cover and place against your wall. Meet Interior Designer Maggie Dillon! Earlier this year, Maggie launched her own Interior Design firm and is already off to the races. We are loving all of her designs so far, and can’t wait to see where her new business takes her! What inspired you to start your own Interior Design business? I worked in the industry in Charlotte, NC for 7 years prior to starting my own firm, nearly 6 of those with Charlotte Lucas Interior Design. My (now) husband started business school last fall, so I moved to Chapel Hill when we got married and felt it was the perfect opportunity to launch MDI. Who and/or what are your main sources of inspiration? While I wouldn’t say our styles are perfectly in line, my mom remains one of my most impactful inspirations. A bit more traditional than me, she stays true to her aesthetic and isn’t afraid of moving things around and swapping pieces out. Plus she’s been my #1 cheerleader (along with my husband) for starting my own business. My sister, owner & founder of Gabrielle Jewelry, is also at the top of my inspo list. She started her jewelry business over 10 years ago and has paved the entrepreneurial way for me. How would you describe your design style? Colorful & unique, practical & user-friendly, personal. What is your very favorite room to design? Dining Rooms have recently shot to the top of my list. Nowadays, they can go in a number of different directions depending on how the client plans to use the space. They don’t have to be super formal or traditional. It’s the perfect room to mix old casegoods or rugs that might have been inherited by a family member, with new elements such as lighting and art. And a place where families and friends can gather, converse & enjoy a meal together. Plus, it’s almost always an appropriate space to use a bolder & brighter wallpaper or paint color. What are some of your favorite paint colors at the moment? Farrow & Ball ‘Pink Ground’ is always a favorite. It’s subtle enough, but still makes a big impact. I recently used their ‘Studio Green’ in a Living Room and adore how it turned out. It’s perfectly dark & moody. If a client is on a strict budget, what are your favorite cost-effective ways to make a big impact? Vintage pieces! Including upholstery. The bones are solid on those old guys, and when you have it in your budget to reupholster, the fabric will be there. Another piece of advice: don’t stretch your budget thin trying to get everything at once. Take your time with it and spend your money on pieces that are built to last. Not only are your interiors beautiful, you make the most elegant tablescapes! Do you have any go-to entertaining tips and tricks? Lots of layers and lots of fresh flowers! And don’t be afraid to bring out the fine & fancy. Mixing old & new (a common theme!) is also an easy way to add interest. Here I paired my personalized Coley Home napkins with my great-grandmother's silver. You recently designed a room with a Coley Home Crown Bed! Can you walk us through the design process? Photography by Lacey Toney Photography I love the way this Guest Bedroom on Sullivan’s Island turned out. I used the Crown Bed with the Kate style headboard & lemongrass fabric. Topped off with the ebony legs, it’s a killer combo. We used the CH coverlet and sheets (so soft), and added in Tulu’s “Stella” fabric for complementary pillow shams & duvet. The client wanted this room to be suitable for her mother’s friends to stay in, but also exciting enough for her eight year old daughter to grow into. I think we checked all of the boxes! Other favorite interior designers? Apparently I’ve got a thing for British designers, including Sophie Robinson for her bold (and admirable) use of color and Beata Heuman for her perfectly quirky and layered designs. Kit Kemp's Firmdale Hotels have been high on my bucket list to visit, too. And I can’t forget Charlotte Lucas, my forever muse and favorite lady. TV Show you are currently watching? I finally convinced my husband to watch New Girl with me. We’re about halfway through and it has us laughing at least every 10 minutes. Favorite/most inspiring place you’ve ever traveled? Last March we took a family trip to Patagonia and it was the most breathtaking landscape I’ve ever seen. Not as much ‘design inspo’ found there (although I’d highly recommend Explora, the resort where we stayed) but I left feeling rejuvenated and refreshed. One of those good-for-the-soul trips! Favorite ways to stay sane during these crazy times? Exercise! I am a big CorePower Yoga fan, and their On Demand app has been a lifesaver. We also recently invested in a Peloton and I’m kicking myself that we didn’t do it sooner. Favorite recipe? We’ve been living out of Caroline Chamber’s cookbook throughout quarantine, appropriately named Just Married. Her newsletter is also hugely helpful, sent out every Monday with several different recipes. And subs for nearly all ingredients! Highly recommend her One Skillet Chicken Parm Gnocchi, using Trader Joe’s cauliflower gnocchi. If you were to put a reminder on a boudoir pillow for your husband, what would you write? "Feed the dog" Item(s) on your bedside table that you can’t live without?
