Coley Home Spotlight: Huff Harrington Design

Meet the creatives behind Huff Harrington Design! Recently featured in The Atlanta Home For The Holidays Show House, we adore their fresh yet traditional spaces. They masterfully blend the old with the new and we love following along to see what they're designing next. Read on to see how they styled their Coley Home piece in the show house. Tell us about yourselves & how you got to where you are today!  Trudy was born and raised in Piqua, Ohio, though people are often surprised I’m not a born and bred Southern belle. I currently lead Huff Harrington Design as Lead Designer, where I bring a refined design sensibility, thoughtful approach, and a little optimism to every project. Before fully stepping into interiors, I honed my spacial design skills through l leadership roles with brands including Gap, Spanx, and Serena & Lily. Frequent trips to France – where I assist with international design projects and installations – have shaped my signature approach: blending old and new with a playful, unexpected twist. Outside the office, you’ll often find me strolling Chastain Park with my handsome Lab, Beau, or enjoying a lively dinner out with my husband, glass of bubbly in hand. Emma Caroline Lee has spent years with Huff Harrington honing her eye through countless design projects. Prior to that she tackled the world of luxury PR launching fine art, fashion and hospitality brands in Atlanta. While her heart lies with traditional themes she loves to create a mix and to elevate designs through fabrics and custom pieces, building a story around our clients’ existing furnishings. Her love of classic and traditional design is a perfect complement to the Huff Harrington mix of antique and modern. When she’s not designing, you can find her spending time with her adorable young family or traveling. One of the most meaningful parts of our work is connecting with clients. We take the time to really listen, understand their stories and the pieces they love, and translate their vision into spaces that feel personal, sophisticated, and always chic. You recently selected 2 Twin Claremont Beds - Charles with a fabulous brushed fringe. Walk us through the design process! One of the elements that grounded the design of the room from the very beginning was a fabulous imported antique settee we found in the South of France. Its sassy curves immediately set the tone, so it was important for us to find bed frames that echoed that curvy softness – the Charles did just that. As with any successful space, the devil is in the details. We had the most fun marrying the bed frames and settee through coordinating fabrics - ultimately choosing a stripe for the beds to bring in a tailored note. To soften the structured stripe - and of course adding a touch of unexpectedness - we finished the headboards with a brushed fringe trim from Samuel & Sons. Layered against the Farrow & Ball high-gloss walls, the subtle movement and texture was the perfect final touch, elevating the beds while tying the entire room together beautifully.  The Claremont bed - Charles How would you describe your style? Classic at its core, with a deep reverence for both contemporary and antique influences.  You have a design branch in both Atlanta and Paris. Do you often try to incorporate European influences throughout your design projects in the US?  It truly works both ways – we’re constantly inspired by both sides of the pond. That said, there’s something especially compelling about incorporating a piece of French history into our state-side projects. A beautiful European antique has an effortless way of adding depth, soul and a bit of “crunch” when layered into a modern or traditional home. We always aim for a home that feels classic and lived-in.   If you had to pick one, what is your favorite project to date?    That’s a difficult question, as each project is deeply personal to each client. Knowing their story, understanding the heirlooms they cherish, and creating designs that reflect their lives make every project meaningful in its own way. What aspect of Parisian lifestyle do you adopt in your everyday life?   I’ve always admired the ease of the French lifestyle – lingering over meals, choosing quality over quantity, and treating everyday rituals as small indulgences. And of course, there’s the skincare… a daily reminder that a good cream can, in fact, solve almost everything!  What’s a wallpaper or fabric you are dying to use in a project?  Tough question because there are so many that are on our radar but I recently stumbled across the most adorable wallpaper by Jordan Connelly  that would be the perfect addition to a  family vacation home. Favorite coffee table book? Well, at the moment , we are gushing over the most recent Atlanta Homes & Lifestyle magazine because Huff Harrington Design made the cover! What is your most requested design feature?   ‘The Mix’ of new  & old The mix – layering new with old to create spaces that feel collected, not decorated. It’s about balancing contemporary pieces with character-rich antiques to achieve spaces that are timeless, personal, and truly lived-in.

Coley Home Spotlight: Megan Molten

Meet Megan! Based in Charleston, SC, she's the Founder and Chief Creative Director of Megan Molten Design + Shop. With her signature mix of modern flair and Southern charm, Megan creates bright, welcoming spaces that feel like home. We’re obsessed with her eye for detail and love how she brought her Coley Home favorites to life in her serene, family-friendly living room. Tell us about yourself and your journey to a successful interior design business and storefront! I studied business and marketing in school and, right out of college, landed a great job in medical sales. I spent 12 years in that industry, which gave me the opportunity to purchase my first home on my own. When I started designing and decorating my home, I shared the process on social media, and to my surprise, people loved it! I never realized I had a distinct style until I started receiving such a positive response. Around that time—when I was 31 or 32—many of my friends were also buying their first homes and asking for my help. We were all working with tight budgets, but I documented every project, sharing before-and-afters on social media. Again, people really responded to my aesthetic, and that’s when it started to click for me—I truly loved design. I never imagined it would become my career, but as I started taking on paid clients in addition to my full-time job, I realized: Wait, this is what I love. My corporate job? Not so much. I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time. Charleston was booming, especially during COVID, and people were moving here in droves. I was able to establish a strong brand and a signature design aesthetic, which has been key to our success. It’s authentic to who I am and what we do, and I think people are drawn to that. Today, we have a luxury interior design business serving Charleston and beyond, as well as a retail store—both a brick-and-mortar location and an online shop. We’ve also expanded to include a warehouse where we manage our online store and house merchandise for our design clients. And beyond that, we have licensed collections in lighting, mirrors, wallpaper, and more to come! What’s your starting point when designing a living room? Do you typically begin with furniture, color, or something else? Lately, we’ve been starting with wallpaper, paint, or a fabric print because clients are craving color more than ever. Once we establish that focal point, the rest of the room naturally falls into place. How do you find the balance between aesthetics and functionality when designing frequently used spaces like living rooms? These days, performance fabric is a must. Almost all of our clients expect it on their upholstery—it’s just become standard. The great thing about working with a designer is that we have access to an incredible variety of high-end performance fabrics that aren’t available to the average consumer. So, we can create spaces that are both beautiful and incredibly durable. Our clients have kids, grandkids, pets—they live an indoor-outdoor lifestyle, especially here in Charleston. Everything we design has to stand up to that while still looking stunning. It’s all about finding that perfect balance of style and function. What is one design element or trend you always try to incorporate into your projects, no matter the size or scope? When clients hire us, they expect creativity and personalization. It’s our job to push them beyond their comfort zone and introduce ideas they wouldn’t have considered on their own. That’s part of the value we bring! We don’t want to do what everyone else is doing—we want to create something fresh, unique, and exciting. What are your favorite areas to splurge when decorating your home, and favorite places to save? Lighting—splurge always! It’s like jewelry for your home. You want the real thing, not the knockoff. There’s a noticeable difference between good lighting and bad lighting, and if you cut corners here, it shows. For key spaces like kitchen pendants, dining room chandeliers, and powder bath sconces, invest in high-quality lighting—it makes all the difference. But in areas like guest rooms, guest baths, and kids’ rooms, you can save by opting for stylish but more affordable options, like Mitzi lighting. Another area where you should never skimp? Upholstery. Your main furniture pieces—your sofa, your chairs—these are things you use every single day. It’s like a mattress; you want it to be high quality, comfortable, and built to last. Other categories can go either way. With wallpaper, for example, you can splurge on grasscloth or save with vinyl. For rugs, wool is a luxury option, but polypropylene can be a great budget-friendly alternative. It’s all about knowing where to invest and where to cut costs. What are your go-to places for inspiration when designing new spaces? Our sample library is a huge source of inspiration. We receive so many incredible materials—wallpapers, fabrics, finishes—and we’re always waiting for the perfect project to use them in. I also love drawing inspiration from a project’s location. For example, if we’re designing a home in the Bahamas, we take in the colors of the palm leaves, the ocean, the sand, and think, Oh my gosh, this is the perfect project for that lime-green palm print wallpaper we’ve been dying to use! Color is such a huge part of our design process, especially in Charleston, but exploring other places and seeing how different environments influence color is a really fun way to get inspired. What are your favorite Coley Home pieces to incorporate in a living room? The Upholstered Bennett Sofa—hands down! We’re actually using it in a project right now with Lilly Pulitzer and Lee Jofa. It’s upholstered in the new Lilly fabric, and we added the cutest little skirt to give it a fresh, modern take on a traditional shape. It’s perfection. I also love the Loza Chair. We’ve used it in a few projects now—it’s big, cozy, and oversized but still has that modern silhouette. That’s what I love about Coley Home—they take classic shapes and reimagine them in a fresh, modern way. Plus, everything is made in North Carolina, which our clients love.

Coley Home Spotlight: Caroline Boykin

Meet Caroline! Based out of Raleigh, NC, Caroline creates the most incredible artwork, from intricate paintings to delicate sculptures. Read on to learn all about Caroline and how she styled her Coley Home pieces. Tell us about yourself and how you got to where you are today! Hey Coley Home! I am Caroline Reehl Boykin, a fine artist based in Raleigh, North Carolina and my work is inspired by the spirit of everyday life. For the past 15 years I have had the honor of creating artwork for clients all over the world. My paintings are filled with elements of nature, architecture, and form using many mediums. I find that unique color interactions within my paintings capture viewers and bring them into a conversation of life and movement. Through the use of porcelain, acrylic paint, and gold and silver leaf, I paint multi-dimensional works that transcend a subject and allow the viewer to decipher meaning. I have always loved to create. My childhood on the Alabama coast cultivated my enchantment with art and southern culture. Touches of this admiration for Southern hospitality and grandeur are seen today flowing through my paintings. While in college, a summer of studying figure drawing in Florence, Italy led me to the realization that being an artist was in my bones. I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Mississippi (Hotty Toddy!!) where I focused on ceramics, but I have always had a true passion for all mediums in art. Today I am blessed to have my studio right here in my home so that I can jump between businesswoman and momma easily. My husband, two girls, and bulldog, Blue, provide me with as much support as they do inspiration to my paintings! Caroline's Website How would you describe your artistic style in your own words? My work is rooted in the rituals of everyday life - morning light, the scent and shapes of flowers from our garden, my girls' infectious giggles, or an ice-cold martini my husband makes me after a long week. These moments are sacred rhythms woven into my paintings. I think my artistic style is a nice combination of Modern and Feminine. How do you approach mixing color and texture in your pieces? Color and texture are such important aspects of my work! In my Le Pointe collection, mixed color combinations are the foundation and the starting point of each painting. Once the squares of color are chosen for the painting, I then come back with more colors but in small marks to create a dance between the squares. When mixing the paint for these marks, I whip my paint to a frosting-like consistency to create little dots of texture. This mesmerizing texture creates the smallest shadows that move throughout the day as light moves across the painting. Caroline used a pair of Bongo Stools in COM (Customer's Own Material) to create the perfect accent pieces for her living room! Where do you personally look for inspiration? Everywhere! Small and simple moments inspire me most as of late. There is beauty surrounding us always, we just have to take the time to find it. This is what I want the viewer to feel when taking in my artwork. To admire the painting with an exhale and to get lost in a memory. I find myself within each scene of my Pout paintings. Do you have any tips for mixing art with furniture and decor in a room? My only tip is to purchase art that you love, and not just because it matches your couch! I find a home much more inviting and beautiful when it is filled with interesting art. What are your favorite areas to splurge when decorating your home, and favorite places to save? My favorite places to splurge and save are the same - antiques! Sometimes you find the save of the century in an antique chandelier or the biggest splurge in an antique Klimt sofa. Whether a splurge or a save, antiques are always necessary. Is there anything more fun than the thrill of the hunt? Most treasured piece in your home (besides your own art)? We have the cover of my great grandmother's bible framed and hung in our kitchen. My great grandmother Leavie, whom my oldest is named after, was born in the late 1800s and I inherited her bible which was so loved and used that it was held together by duct tape. We (very carefully!) took off the cover that is inscribed with her name and framed it in a gorgeous antique frame. It brings me so much joy to see it every day, a sweet reminder of my beloved family and what a matriarch looks like. What is your favorite spring or summer recipe? Food or cocktail! So many! We love to eat in my house! In the spring and summer, it’s anything made with in-season produce from our local Farmer's Market. We also love a skinny Piña Colada for a fun cocktail/mocktail around the pool. It's just blended coconut water, a little pineapple juice, pineapple chunks, and ice. When my girls aren't partaking, a splash of rum makes it even tastier! Thanks, Caroline!

I always have sunglasses, my wallet, a lipgloss and a few extra pacifiers in my bag to get me through the day.  Favorite winter/cold weather recipe (dish or cocktail, your choice!) Meet Jamie Kirkman, founder of Jamie Kirkman Interiors! Jamie takes a pragmatic and creative approach to her designs, incorporating custom furnishings, special collections, and curated art. With over 25 years of experience, Jamie has perfected her design techniques and was recently featured in the Atlanta Home For The Holidays Show house. She featured Coley Home chairs in the dining room and we are obsessed with how they turned out! Read on to see how she styled her Coley Home pieces in the show house. Tell us about yourselves & how you got to where you are today! I've always been drawn to creating spaces that feel both beautiful and lived in, and my path into interior design began through hands-on learning and mentorship. Today, my approach is all about understanding my client and their personalities, how they move through their homes, and what matters most to them. I believe the best design reflects who you are while elevating your everyday life. I feel incredibly fortunate to do work I'm passionate about alongside clients who trust me with their most personal spaces. You recently selected (6) Evans Dining Chairs in COM with Mont Blanc, Blush Welt, and Bleached Oak Finish, as well as (2) Evans Dining Chairs in Miller, Taupe with a Mont Blanc, Blush welt, and Bleached Oak Finish for your Dining Space in the Atlanta Home for the Holidays Showhouse. Walk us through the design process!  The lines of the Evans chairs were exactly what I wanted for the showhouse dining chairs. We then selected fabrics that could stand out against other beautiful features in the room while complementing the chairs' style. The geometric pattern on the COM chairs worked perfectly with the small scale of Miller Taupe, while the Blush Welt tied the chairs together to create a cohesive design. The Evans Dining Chair - COM The evans dining chair - Miller, Taupe with a Mont Blanc, Blush welt Do you have any tips for selecting the perfect COM for a space?  When choosing COM fabrics, I focus on the room's function first, selecting options that are both beautiful and durable enough for daily use, helping clients find something they truly love and that suits their lifestyle. How would you describe your style?  I'd describe my style as refined organic luxury. I love layering natural elements like wood, stone, and greenery with sophisticated details like brass fixtures and sculptural lighting. I aim for spaces that feel both curated and livable, while reflecting the client’s personality and lifestyle. What is the most important detail when designing a dining room? Lighting is everything. It sets the entire mood for gathering and entertaining. Beautiful ambient lighting that makes everyone look and feel their best. The table should allow for comfortable conversation with chairs that are comfortable enough that guests actually want to sit in for hours, and the overall space should encourage people to linger and feel the atmosphere. What is your favorite space that you have designed in your personal home?  I love our primary bedroom. It's calming and restorative, designed as a true sanctuary with minimal furnishings and a soft, soothing palette. What are your go to places for inspiration when designing a new space? I love flipping through design books and following European interiors on Instagram for fresh perspectives. What is your favorite coffee table book? John Derian Picture Book There's something about his eye for beauty in the overlooked that really resonates with me. Thank you, Jamie!

I get a lot of styling questions from my followers and send links to my belts and other outfit polishing pieces daily.  What’s one niche holiday decoration you can’t live without? I purchase a fresh, beautiful oversized wreath every year. It’s something timeless and instantly sets the tone for the season without feeling overdone but still elevated.  We have to ask! What’s currently in your bag?  Oh gosh, a full mix of things! I always have sunglasses, my wallet, a lipgloss and a few extra pacifiers in my bag to get me through the day.  Favorite winter/cold weather recipe (dish or cocktail, your choice!) I am not the chef in my household but my husband makes these really yummy bacon wrapped dates that are always a hit!

Meet Jamie Kirkman, founder of Jamie Kirkman Interiors!

So many! Coley Home Spotlight: Cathy Rhodes Interiors

Meet Cathy Rhodes of Cathy Rhodes Interiors! Cathy is a fabulous designer who was recently featured in the Atlanta Home For The Holiday’s Show house. We loved hearing about her design process and the small details she uses to make her spaces spectacular. Read on to learn how Cathy styled her Coley Home pieces!  Tell us about yourselves & how you got to where you are today! I started my design firm in 2001 and have been designing elegant homes in the southeast ever since.  With an MBA from Vanderbilt and 9 years in corporate finance I decided to turn my weekend hobby into a career. You recently selected The Claremont Bed - Monarch, the Dakota Dining Chair and The Shiitake Ottomans in your space in the Atlanta Home for the Holidays Show House. Walk us through the design process! My inspiration for this guest bedroom was my two grown daughters who now live in NYC.  Thinking about redesigning my daughter’s childhood bedrooms into more sophisticated guest bedrooms that they look forward to coming home to stay in.  I wanted to create a tranquil oasis for my daughters and other guests.. Lavender is such a calm color and is wonderful for a guest room because its somewhat unexpected.  I selected the Galbraith and Paul Fern pattern first and worked with Liz Galbraith to custom color the fabric in the perfect shades of lilac and lavender.  And then we found two other Galbraith and Paul fabrics that we could add in touches of soft greens and blues. Selecting a beautiful bed was next.  The scalloped Claremont Bed was perfect because the scallop detail added the feminine touch I was looking for.  Upholstering it in Holland Sherry’s velvet mohair gave it the coziness I envisioned.  The Dakota Dining Chair works beautifully as a desk chair.  And the Shiitake Ottomans are just fun and can go anywhere in a room.  I have used them in many clients’ homes and just love them.  They are fun at the foot of this bed but can also be pulled into a dressing room or a dressing table or used as an ottoman with your favorite reading chair. What is your favorite thing about designing for a  show house? How is it different from designing for clients? Show houses are an opportunity to truly display your creativity without any restrictions.  It's the chance to do something a little daring and unique. What is your starting point when designing a bedroom?  For a bedroom I always start with a beautiful fabric that can set the tone for the room.   What is a small detail you always include in bedrooms you design?  I always include a pretty long pillow on the bed in addition to the shams. What are your go-to places for bed linens?  Gramercy Home is my favorite.  They carry many beautiful bedding lines including Matouk and Sferra and they are so easy to work with. Where do you splurge vs. save in the bedroom? I usually splurge on the drapery and the decorative bedding because it has the biggest impact on a bedroom.  If we need to save then I like to save on the sheets by buying simple white sheets to go with the pretty decorative duvet and shams.  What is your favorite space in your home?  My favorite space in my home is my dressing hall because its my pretty little retreat from the rest of the house and I love starting my day there. What is a design trend you hope stays forever? Lucite!  I love lucite pieces because they add a modern touch when you need it to a traditional space and its the ideal material when you need something that is not too heavy and will not take away from other things in the room. Just like the lucite etagere in this guest bedroom. What is your favorite coffee table book? The Decorated Home by Meg Braff.  The photos are beautiful and the way she wrote about each project feels like you are sitting in her living room have a casual conversation about design.  She’s a great college friend of mine so I love seeing how her personality shines through in her book. Thank you, Cathy!

Coley Home Spotlight: Garden & Grace

Meet Crystal! Based in Charlotte, NC, with her husband and three children, she’s the creative behind Garden & Grace—your go-to for elegant, classic home and garden inspiration. We love her traditional yet effortless style! Read the blog to learn all about Crystal and how she styled her Coley Home pieces in her little boy's bedroom.  Tell us about yourself and what inspired you to start Garden & Grace?  Hi! I’m Crystal Moore, founder of Garden & Grace, a lifestyle brand focused on classic living. My biggest joy is being a mom to three young kids and sharing this life with my high school sweetheart and husband of 10 years in our hometown of Charlotte, NC. With an unconventional path, filled with a career in healthcare administration, I started Garden & Grace during covid as a creative outlet and with no real business plan. But as the daughter of a home builder and a lifelong architecture enthusiast (heightened by my time living in Birmingham, AL and Chicago, IL), I’ve always loved everything about a home and what it represents. Almost 4 years later,  I still pinch myself that I get to share this passion with the Garden & Grace community. You recently redecorated your son’s room. Walk us through the design process!  We moved into our home two years ago, right before I had my third, and my oldest son’s bedroom was such an afterthought. I knew I would want to go back and give him a proper room and finally got around to it just shy of his 6th birthday! I started with combing through inspiration I had saved through the years and noticed  a recurring theme of Americana-style rooms. So I started with a framed vintage American flag and tattersall rug, two quintessential design elements to define the room.  I used those elements to select the fabric for my son’s  Coley Home headboards and from there layered on bedding, lighting and other decor.  Get the Look The Twin Crown Headboard - Charles in Nola, Blue with Belgian Linen, Dark Blue Welt Shop Now What advice do you have for anyone who might be in the process of redecorating a kids’ room?  Designed by Clary Bosbyshell Start with the pieces that you can’t stop thinking about and build your design from there. And don’t get caught up in creating the perfect room with everything you see in a room on Instagram or Pinterest. Most are staged and designed without a budget. Remember, kids will use their room so design it with that in mind! Finding a reliable contact for a home project can be challenging. How do you go about sourcing professionals for your Trusted List of Home Experts? Designed by Anne Pearson Design, Photography by Dustin Peck Photography The Garden & Grace Directory was born out of the constant request from followers for good, reliable home professionals in their cities. It’s now a trusted source with over 45 professionals recommended by a trusted designer, friend or that I’ve personally used. It’s all about curating a mix of professionals for any project all that exemplify honesty, quality work and align with the Garden & Grace style. It’s still new (just over a year old!) so I’m excited to see how it continues to grow and be a trusted source for home projects. Interested companies can apply here. What is your most requested product from your followers? Designed by Whitney Sturge Interiors, Photography by Dustin Peck Photography Lighting! Whether a side table lamp, pleated lamp shade or pendants over a kitchen island, it’s a popular topic and one I love to share!  What are your favorite areas to splurge when decorating your home, and favorite places to save? Design by Caroline Gidiere Design Design by James Farmer Inc, Photography by Upholstery and rugs, hands down. I like to buy those new and to last. They anchor the room and everything else falls in around them. I usually source accessories and artwork from antique malls and estate sales – which can lead to some really good deals and unique pieces! Favorite spring recipe? My signature dish, year round but especially this time of year,  are deviled eggs. I add a touch of dijon mustard, finely chopped dill pickles and sprinkle with paprika to top them off.  They always go fast!

Coley Home Spotlight: April Tomlin

Based in Nashville, TN, April Tomlin designs the most beautiful, serene spaces. We love her moody, yet inviting style and ability to incorporate and layer texture. Read the blog to learn all about April and how she styled her Coley Home piece. Tell us about yourself & how you got to where you are today! I didn’t grow up in a house like the ones I design. My mom, a hardworking single parent, was more concerned with putting a roof over our heads than she was with how our house looked, but even back then, I can remember rearranging our furniture and finding art to hang on walls - anything to make the house feel more homey. At my core, I have always believed that everyone can achieve this feeling, no matter what house they have. I took this passion and turned it into a career when I became, and continue to be, a student of design, construction and architecture. I ultimately started my own design firm in Nashville, and over the years, I have learned a lot about myself and my place in design. I know there is more to creating a home than simply making construction decisions and furniture selections. I aim to enhance both people’s homes and their lives through my work, and I have been lucky enough to do that for so many amazing clients throughout my 14 years in the industry. To me, the essence of an April Tomlin Interiors home encompasses my welcoming, laid back, and creative way of living, and I hope to recreate this feeling in every home I touch, just like I’ve been doing since I was a kid. How would you describe your aesthetic?  Historically, our firm has been known for an extremely texturized look and feel, a neutral palette, the frequent use of wood, and adding elements that evoke interest with wallpapers, lighting, unexpected materials, and a mix of eclectic and modern art. Lately, I have evolved into a lover of more classic design (never abandoning my signature edgy moments though). Whether it be because I am building my own home in a rural area outside of Nashville, that I am simply aging and changing as I raise my family, or that the chaos of the world calls us all back to a more simple way of living…whatever it is, I know that I like and absorb more classic architecture and design these days and have started incorporating that into my work. You recently selected the Claremont Bed, Hudson in Ringo, Shell with a Linen Stripe, Shell Welt for your precious girls’ room - Walk us through the design process! We have used this exact bed style in another design project, so I knew I wanted it for my girls. When it came to picking the color, I chose coloring that best complemented the art I’d been collecting for the gallery walls that would become the backdrops for their beds. Luckily, I landed on a pink, and since they’ve been asking me for pink beds for years, they were thrilled. Get the look Shop Now in Ringo, Shell with Linen Stripe, Shell Welt and Weathered Oak Finish What are your favorite areas to splurge when decorating your home, and favorite places to save? ART. While it doesn’t necessarily have to be expensive, I do encourage anyone interested in improving their home to start collecting significant and meaningful pieces of art. Art can bring so much warmth and uniqueness to a home if selected well. I have taken my own advice (just like in my girls’ room), and I now have a curated collection of art that is not only special but makes an impressive design statement in my home. When it comes to clients, I encourage them to concentrate their budgets on the most experienced spaces of the home like the living room and kitchen. Investing in high quality design elements and furnishings in these spaces really saves money in the long run because there is longevity in good design and furniture (and, of course, these are the areas that guests actually see and use). On the other hand, I tell them not to spend all their money on spaces that will likely need to change throughout their years in the home like kids’ rooms and playrooms. What is your favorite space to design? I like the kitchen because it is the most used space in the home and can have as few or as many materials as you want. There is lots of room for creativity. You do such a great job at combining colors and textures - what are your go to places for inspiration? For inspiration, I like to explore digitally, especially while I have young kids and am not able to travel the globe. I usually find myself somewhere in Europe when I do. When I do get to travel, I take so many photos of buildings, the insides of restaurants and anything that feels different than the area where I live and mainly design What’s your dream travel destination?  Anywhere I haven’t been in Europe yet… Are you binge watching or reading anything fun at the moment? I am currently reading the book of Romans from the Bible as well as The Anxious Generation because I am raising two girls in a fast-paced, ‘latest is greatest’ kind of world.

Under-bed storage is a must in small apartments—it really helps keep things organized. And next year I am hoping to have an “adult bed” from Coley, something stylish and practical. I already have the design in mind... but y'all will have to wait!  Your style is absolutely effortless, and we are obsessed! Where are your favorite places to shop? Thank you! I love vintage shopping—it just fits me better. My grandma has such a chic closet, and I’m always trying to snag pieces from it. For new pieces, I love Moda Operandi and Net-a-Porter. I always find unique brands there. In your styling career, have you had any pinch me moments that you can share?  One of the best moments in my career is seeing brides light up when they try on an outfit I’ve styled for them. It’s such an honor to be part of their special day. What is the most requested product from your followers?   Lately, a lot of people have been asking about my home decor. But usually, my followers ask for advice on what to wear to weddings or for trips to Palm Beach. Favorite Restaurant in NYC? Or one that you’re dying to try! Cipriani is a favorite of mine—classic and always good. I’m excited to try Commerce Inn soon, especially since I’m going for Valentine’s Day! What’s one thing your followers would be surprised to learn about you? I lived in New Zealand during high school to row crew in Nelson. It’s an amazing place and should be on everyone’s bucket list! A lot of people are surprised to learn that I’m athletic since I’m usually seen as a “girly girl.” Also, even though I share so much of my life online, I’m actually pretty introverted with people I don’t know. It’s a funny mix!

You recently selected a Dressmaker Teeny Dining Chair in Italian Blend, Lemongrass with an Italian Blend, White welt. Walk us through the design process! This was for my kitchen desk which has a small space for pushing the chair under/leg room. I wanted a chair with castors & the new skirted design of this chair totally fit the measurements & feel for what I was looking for. I needed a pop of color on a white wall & the lemongrass fabric balances the colors in my keeping room across the kitchen. Finding this fabric was like a match made in heaven… I immediately knew this little chair would make a big impact & complete the space!! Get the Look: in Italian Blend, Lemongrass with Italian Blend, White Welt How would you describe your style? Colorful, feminine & classic with a twist! What are your favorite areas to splurge when decorating your home, and favorite places to save? My favorite areas to splurge are on pieces that can make a difference in the room or on staples you’ll have for years - whether it be the fabric, the comfort, or sheer quality – I take all those into consideration. When you can find quality pieces that mesh well with the room & don’t look cheap, I say save!! Sometimes I splurge on the lighting, curtains & pillows - other times on the chairs, couches & staple pieces you'll have for years! I am big on not buying until I have found the perfect piece, whether it's a save or splurge! Don’t buy unless you love. I would rather wait & save up to get what I really want vs. impulse save on something that doesn’t bring me joy looking at! What is the most requested product from your followers? Fabulous question… that is tough, as I get such a variety of requests, but categorically I would say everyday wear & home decor! I love sharing staples & statements in your closet & in your home.  You welcomed your second baby a few months ago - how is life with two going so far? Oh my goodness, it is extra sweet (& chaotic)! I truly cannot imagine my life without these two. Their love is the sweetest thing in the world! Life is so full, and wild and sometimes crazy, but gosh, trying to soak up this season as I know it’s not forever! They grow up so fast. What’s one thing your followers would be surprised to learn about you? I am wildly non-materialistic! I think in this industry it is so tough to convey that, as you are consistently sharing new things! Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love beautiful things, but my relationships with family & friends are what matter the most to me. As I say to my children, it's who you are on the inside & the love you give to others, vs. what you have on the outside that counts! Favorite recipe?  Ohhh! I absolutely love to cook & just hosted my annual Christmas dinner party. I made Italian Beef Braciole for the second year in a row (by special request of the guests) & it is such a special meal. Pair it with a nice Cab or my favorite, a Chablis!

Coley Home Spotlight: Kate Hutchison

Meet Kate! Based in Raleigh, NC, she designs the most amazing spaces. Recently, she designed Caroline Chambers home and filled it with our favorite Coley Home pieces! Read the blog to learn all about Kate, her design tips, and how she dreamed up Caroline's home. Tell us about yourself! I am a High Point, NC native, which happens to be the furniture capital of the world, so I am a big fan of NC-made furniture like Coley Home! Growing up in the furniture/design industry definitely encouraged my affinity for all things interiors. I live in Raleigh, NC with my husband, Wylie, our 7-week old(!) James, and 2 dogs, Macy and Minnie.  How would you describe your design style?  I definitely lean toward traditional, but fresh! Clean, classic and timeless with a side of fun - and it has to be practical!  If you had to pick one, what is your favorite project to date? I recently completed a project in my hometown of High Point that will be hard to beat. It was a new build, but we were very intentional with the floorplan and selections, so it feels like it could have always been there. This was the third home on which I have worked with these clients and we just have a really great, easy working relationship, and now friendship. They are the loveliest people - and very importantly, they are trusting! Anytime a client wholly trusts your vision it always results in the most successful outcome possible.  Favorite areas to splurge when designing a home, and favorite places to save? I think first impressions are important, so any space that your guests will see as they enter your home is a good place to spend your money! If you have an office or study off of your foyer, don't throw your old computer chair and standing desk in there! Invest in quality pieces that serve your needs but also feel welcoming and put together. Powder rooms are a great place to splurge on wallpaper and plumbing fixtures since they're typically smaller in size and you only need one faucet. Splurge on light fixtures in high traffic areas, save on tile in secondary bathrooms. Splurge on pillows, save on accent pieces like end tables. Splurge on anything you really love, and save.... your money until you can afford more of what you love! Living with an empty room for a little while is better than filling one with junk that doesn't make you happy. Favorite paint color at the moment? Benjamin Moore Sagebrush Wallpaper you are dying to use in a project?  I am dying to use so many wallpapers from artist Claire de Quenetain - her motifs and color palettes make me smile! And Lee Jofa just introduced their classic Grand Althea fabric as a wallpaper - I'm lusting after the Blue/Leaf colorway, which would be perfect in a traditional dining room or primary bedroom. It is so sophisticated, but the colors feel young and current. Go-to places for design inspiration? I love taking in the architecture and stumbling upon interesting design choices when traveling, but when I'm at home, my collections (read: a bordering-on-hoarding-disorder-number) of old design magazines and vintage coffee table books never fail to get my creativity flowing when I've hit a wall.  3 favorite Instagram follows at the moment? Custom cabinet maker Jon Hilgenberg out of Charleston, SC @jchcabinets Master builder and historical millwork expert Brent Hull @hullmillwork_hullhomes Sisters and inventors of a life changing duvet system, Kate Howey and Maddy Conroy @pippenhouse - They created a genius product that allows you to change your duvet in under a minute, and their banter is hysterical. And they are Caroline's cousins! Favorite coffee table book? One Man's Folly: The Exceptional Houses of Furlow Gatewood by Julia Reed Dream travel destination? I would love to go back to Cambodia at some point, it was unlike any other place I've been! Favorite book or TV show at the moment? Book: At Home by Bill Bryson / TV show: Severance From a design perspective, how were you able to incorporate the California/Carmel aesthetic? Caroline's house is a post-adobe home, which is a building style that's unique to the Carmel area, so we really wanted to honor the original architect's plans as much as possible. We were very authentic with our selection of materials and finishes, and we made a point to let the quirky elements of the house shine instead of trying to cover them up! In general, the aesthetic in California is pretty different from what it is here in the South. It's much more organic and casual in CA, and that made this project a lot of fun for me. Did Caroline have a few staples that she wanted to work around to help you create your design?  Other than a few lamps and accessories, we pretty much started fresh! Because her husband served in the military and they moved around quite a bit, Caroline didn't have a lot of furniture that she was really attached to. She did have some non-negotiables, but those mostly pertained to the home's functionality and livability. The kitchen, of course, had to serve her needs as a cookbook author and recipe developer, so I really tried to make use of every inch we had in there with the layout and cabinetry! Maxing out counter space, adding as much storage as possible and situating the appliances in a way that flowed naturally, but still allowed her to film cooking content was a must. Her list of priorities was definitely in the right order - function first! What is your favorite space to design?  I love a good bathroom renovation - the biggest transformations often happen in those small spaces! We're proudly made in North Carolina by the best artisans in the business! Learn how our furniture is made and get inspired to design your own! ORDER IS RECEIVED 1. Your order is entered into a Materials Requirement System, which notifies Manufacturing of the materials needed for the order. 2. Once scheduled for production, our CAD system sends files to the Frame, Cushion, and Poly Departments to create the parts needed for manufacturing. 3. While the frame is being cut and assembled, the cushions and poly are being prepared to Coley Home specifications. The fabric is also being pulled from inventory to begin the cutting process. CUT & SEW 4. Fabric is measured for width and vertical/horizontal repeats, and this information is entered into our CAD system, which contains all pattern parts. All pattern parts are lined to Coley Home specifications 5. The fabric is placed on our CAM system, and the operator pulls the corresponding CAD file for the order. The order is then cut, and each piece is inspected. For more complex orders or those with multiple fabrics, paper patterns are also used. This requires a highly skilled cutter to manually lay out the pattern parts and cut them to specification. 6. Once cut, the order is sent to the Sewing Department. Each style has specific specifications detailing how each part of the furniture is sewn together. All parts for the body of the piece are sewn first, followed by the backs and cushions. 7. Once the parts are sewn together, French seams are added as specified for a more refined look. A serger is also used to finish the raw edges of the seams. The order is now ready for upholstery. FRAME & SPRING UP 8. Frame parts for the order are pulled and assembled to specifications using glue and large industrial staples. 9. Once the frame is assembled, sinuous springs are added to the seats and backs as required. Nylon webbing is also applied to the open areas of the frame for added support. 10. All parts are now ready, and the cushions and poly have been delivered by the vendor. All parts are now delivered to one of our skilled craftsmen to be built. UPHOLSTERY  11. The Insider will add poly, fiber, and cotton to the arms, seats, inside backs, and outside arms. The fabric is then stretched and adjusted for a clean fit, and secured with staples. Once complete, the Insider will send the piece to the Trimmer. 12. The Trimmer will do any detail work, such as adding welts, and apply seamless parts - such as an outside back. Any legs or swivels will also be applied here. The cushion and backs are then filled to specification.  INSPECTION & PACKING 13. We now have a completed piece. The order is inspected and compared to the customer’s original specifications. Once it passes inspection, the piece is cleaned, refreshed, and sent to packing. 14. Packing has specifications for how each piece packs. The piece is placed in a heavy-duty cardboard tray and a soft nylon bag is draped over it for protection. A plastic shrink bag is placed over everything and heated to secure it in place. Foam blocks are added to any areas that need extra protection. 15. Once packed, a cardboard box fitting over furniture is applied for an added layer of protection 16. The order is now ready to ship!

Coley Home Spotlight: Elizabeth White Cook

Meet Elizabeth! Based in Atlanta, GA, she is an entrepreneur and content creator! She also has an incredible eye for home decor and finding gems in estate sales. Read on to learn all about Elizabeth and how she styled her Coley Home piece.  Tell us about yourself & how you got to where you are today! Hi There, I am so happy to be here with you! Currently, I’m at home in my hometown with my two little ones, Louisa (5) and Hayes (3). A few years ago, while pregnant with Hayes, I sold my second business, the Atlanta-based public relations firm Domino Media Group. At the time, I was feeling depleted and craved a proper maternity break to focus on my growing family. After some time off, I realized I’m my best self when I have a creative outlet. When Hayes was about six months old, I stepped back into work—but in a much smaller, more intentional capacity—as I continue to navigate what feels right in this season of life. My background blends publishing, lifestyle public relations, and entrepreneurship. My first business, Elizabeth Heard, was a line of thoughtfully designed hair accessories that celebrated personal style. That venture led to my being named a Forbes 30 Under 30 finalist in 2017. The company was acquired later that year, which you can read about here. In 2016, I founded Domino Media Group, a nationally recognized public relations and brand strategy firm specializing in lifestyle brands. In 2021, I stepped away from Domino to explore new creative passions and spend more time at home with my family. Now, I’m in an exciting chapter of rediscovery, combining my love of storytelling, style, and thoughtful living in new ways. I’m so grateful to be here and share this journey with you! What are your favorite areas to splurge when decorating a home, and favorite places to save? When it comes to decorating a home, I’m all about mixing splurges with smart saves to create a space that feels elevated yet approachable. My go-to splurges are definitely beautiful fabrics, custom upholstery work, and high-quality contractor help. I tend to save in just about every other category and really relish scouring estate sales, thrift stores, online auctions, and sample sales. How would you describe your style and aesthetic?  My home is a collected, layered, and continual work in progress. My style leans more traditional, but I have a deep appreciation for storied objects with history and personality, which is probably why pieces with a second, third, or even fourth life always call to me. You recently selected the Eleanor Bench in Emmy, Seafoam for your son's room - Walk us through the design process!  My son's room is primarily red, blue, and green. The walls are painted in Farrow & Ball Cook's Blue, and the sheets are green gingham, complemented by pillows from Pepper Home and Sister Parish. The bed is an antique mahogany piece I found on Facebook Marketplace. I loved how the Seafoam colorway of the Eleanor Bench matched the sheet color and brought in more green to the space. The bench has such pretty bones, and we've all been enjoying it! Get the look in Emmy, Seafoam with Belgian Linen, Dark Blue Trim You find such great pieces from auctions and thrift stores…what are some tips you can give us on how to navigate them (particularly the online auctions)? I love physical estate sales because you can snag everything from hardware to helpful objects like cleaning supplies or even a Dyson vacuum. Sometimes you can find better deals in person than online, plus you avoid those extra fees! Online sales via LiveAuctioneers curate items from all physical auctions around the country, so you can shop from the comfort of your home. To make things easier, here are some tips for finding great deals in online auctions: Download the LiveAuctioneers app and create an account on the website. It’s my preferred platform, though others like Invaluable and BidSquare are also good options. Use the “Find Auctions” dropdown to find sales near you. Knowing about local auctions is great for previewing items and avoiding shipping costs. Search by specific terms—play around with keywords for designers, furniture styles, materials, or colors. For example, search for "Bunny Williams" to find everything related to her designs. Set up alerts for items you love. Save searches for specific items or designers and get notified when they go on sale. I have over 100 saved searches for things like Brunschwig & Fils, Madeline Weinrib, and Philip Moulthrop. Do your price research. Check past sales of similar items to ensure you're bidding wisely. LiveAuctioneers makes it easy to research previous prices. Educate yourself on designers and furniture styles. The more you know, the better you can recognize deals and high-quality items. Follow your favorite tastemakers on social media and check out design magazines and coffee table books. Know the market. If you're into china, silver, or crystal, you can often find beautiful pieces for a fraction of their original cost. Mahogany furniture is another area where prices can be lower due to changing tastes. Measure before you buy. Always double-check the dimensions in the descriptions, and if they're missing, reach out to the auction house for more details. Be mindful of shipping and labor costs. Contact shippers ahead of time to get quotes for the pieces you're interested in. This helps you gauge the total cost of an item, including delivery. Research the home or estate. Auctions often provide details about the home where the items came from. This can help you understand the taste and quality of the pieces. Watch out for fees. Understand the buyer's premium (usually 25-30%), shipping costs, and any potential repair costs. Always calculate the total price before bidding. Look for deals in less popular times. Auctions held at odd times or with less buzz can offer great deals as fewer people are watching. Consider items without photos. Even if an item doesn't have pictures, the description can often provide enough details for you to Google it. If you're unsure, contact the auction house for more photos.   Finally, remember that when you bid, you're committing to purchase the item if you win! Happy hunting, and remember to be patient—sometimes the best deals take time to come around. What  is your most requested item from your followers? I've really been leaning into the content world lately and have loved connecting with the community of design enthusiasts I've met online. The most common question I get asked is about our paint colors and the wipeable laminate on our kitchen chairs. Do you have a favorite recipe now that it's finally winter? I'm not much of a cook, but I look to Ina Garten for just about all my recipes. Her dishes are always comforting and delicious, Do you have a favorite book or TV show at the moment? I recently devoured Nobody Wants This on Netflix and absolutely loved it. As for books, I just finished Jamie Lin’s Worthy about the value of self-belief. She is the founder of IT cosmetics and loved hearing about how she got the beauty brand off the ground!

Coley Home Spotlight: Katie Richard

Meet Katie! Based in Beaufort, SC, this virtual interior designer shares the most beautiful finds! We love her fresh and livable style. Read on to learn all about Katie and how she styled her Coley Home piece. Tell us about yourselves & how you got to where you are today! Hi! I’m a mama of two kiddos, Brooks (8) and Blakely (3). My absolute pride and joys in life. Residing in Beaufort, SC. I have always had a passion for design and aesthetic of the home. Making my house a home and constantly changing things, I was encouraged by my mom to maybe pursue this love of decorating and offer a service that would allow me to stay home with my kids while also doing something for me. That is when I began offering e-design interior decorating consults and it has been wildly successful since 2022. I began by sharing my own home design and projects and it has since evolved into working with over 150 clients since! Helping my clients curate a space that is truly theirs has been so fun to do. How would you describe your aesthetic? I would describe my design aesthetic as simply traditional. I love the mix of old and new and prefer a space that is bright, airy and simplistic. Bringing in old, vintage or antique pieces brings so much warmth, interest and dimension to a space. I also LOVE to pattern mix. Creating interest with wallpaper, bamboo furniture pieces and framed art are another way I like to bring dimension and texture to a space but nothing that is too overly fussy. I could play around with textiles all day long! Ultimately the goal is always to create a space that reflects my clients interests and needs. You recently selected two Mia Ottomans in Ticking, Rose Petal for your little girl’s room - Walk us through the design process! Designing my daughter's space was a true labor of love. Lots of schemes were played around with and I landed on a fabric that I just knew would be the perfect starting point for the space. Building off that pillow fabric led me to the Ticking, Rose Petal from Coley Home. It was the perfect shade of pink, a beautifully thick cotton/linen blend and just the right ticking stripe pattern. I wanted this to be in the forefront of the space because I adored it so much and knew that they would be the perfect element for the end of her bed. Between the curved legs and the beautiful welt, they were most definitely the piece that brought the space together. Get the look: in Ticking, Rose Petal What is the most requested product from your followers? Requests I get a lot from my followers are guidance on fabric pairings. They see the beautiful schemes on my page and just don't know how to do that on their own. They know what they like but they can't execute it. That's where I step in. Helping them tie their drapes in with a coordinating pillow fabric, wallpaper or paint selection is just an example of that. What are your favorite areas to splurge when decorating your home, and favorite places to save? Hands down my favorite area to splurge on is lighting. It truly is the jewelry of your home and great lighting will never go out of style. It will stay in your home for years to come. When speaking of ways to save, my initial thoughts are area rugs. I love the neutral and timeless look of a sisal rug. It pairs so well with so many design aesthetics and there are so many affordable options to choose from. What are your go to places to find inspiration? This may be very old school but I utilize Pinterest a lot for inspiration along with following and fangirling over very talented and seasoned Interior Designers such as Nels Crosthwaite Eyre, Meg Braff, and Alison Hammatt. What is your current favorite paint color? My current favorite paint color is Benjamin Moore Simply White. This is the perfect creamy, warm white for any space. Favorite fall recipe? I am a White Chicken Chili lover. I love soups of any kind and it becomes my main form of sustenance come the colder months. You just can't beat a warm bowl of soup at the end of a cold day! Favorite book or TV show at the moment? I personally do not watch a ton of TV or read but if there is a book in my hands it's usually a design book such as “The Art of Gracie” by Jennifer Gracie or Suzanne Kaslers “Edited Style.”
