Coley Home Spotlight: Huff Harrington Design

Meet the creatives behind Huff Harrington Design! Recently featured in The Atlanta Home For The Holidays Show House, we adore their fresh yet traditional spaces. They masterfully blend the old with the new and we love following along to see what they're designing next. Read on to see how they styled their Coley Home piece in the show house. Tell us about yourselves & how you got to where you are today!  Trudy was born and raised in Piqua, Ohio, though people are often surprised I’m not a born and bred Southern belle. I currently lead Huff Harrington Design as Lead Designer, where I bring a refined design sensibility, thoughtful approach, and a little optimism to every project. Before fully stepping into interiors, I honed my spacial design skills through l leadership roles with brands including Gap, Spanx, and Serena & Lily. Frequent trips to France – where I assist with international design projects and installations – have shaped my signature approach: blending old and new with a playful, unexpected twist. Outside the office, you’ll often find me strolling Chastain Park with my handsome Lab, Beau, or enjoying a lively dinner out with my husband, glass of bubbly in hand. Emma Caroline Lee has spent years with Huff Harrington honing her eye through countless design projects. Prior to that she tackled the world of luxury PR launching fine art, fashion and hospitality brands in Atlanta. While her heart lies with traditional themes she loves to create a mix and to elevate designs through fabrics and custom pieces, building a story around our clients’ existing furnishings. Her love of classic and traditional design is a perfect complement to the Huff Harrington mix of antique and modern. When she’s not designing, you can find her spending time with her adorable young family or traveling. One of the most meaningful parts of our work is connecting with clients. We take the time to really listen, understand their stories and the pieces they love, and translate their vision into spaces that feel personal, sophisticated, and always chic. You recently selected 2 Twin Claremont Beds - Charles with a fabulous brushed fringe. Walk us through the design process! One of the elements that grounded the design of the room from the very beginning was a fabulous imported antique settee we found in the South of France. Its sassy curves immediately set the tone, so it was important for us to find bed frames that echoed that curvy softness – the Charles did just that. As with any successful space, the devil is in the details. We had the most fun marrying the bed frames and settee through coordinating fabrics - ultimately choosing a stripe for the beds to bring in a tailored note. To soften the structured stripe - and of course adding a touch of unexpectedness - we finished the headboards with a brushed fringe trim from Samuel & Sons. Layered against the Farrow & Ball high-gloss walls, the subtle movement and texture was the perfect final touch, elevating the beds while tying the entire room together beautifully.  The Claremont bed - Charles How would you describe your style? Classic at its core, with a deep reverence for both contemporary and antique influences.  You have a design branch in both Atlanta and Paris. Do you often try to incorporate European influences throughout your design projects in the US?  It truly works both ways – we’re constantly inspired by both sides of the pond. That said, there’s something especially compelling about incorporating a piece of French history into our state-side projects. A beautiful European antique has an effortless way of adding depth, soul and a bit of “crunch” when layered into a modern or traditional home. We always aim for a home that feels classic and lived-in.   If you had to pick one, what is your favorite project to date?    That’s a difficult question, as each project is deeply personal to each client. Knowing their story, understanding the heirlooms they cherish, and creating designs that reflect their lives make every project meaningful in its own way. What aspect of Parisian lifestyle do you adopt in your everyday life?   I’ve always admired the ease of the French lifestyle – lingering over meals, choosing quality over quantity, and treating everyday rituals as small indulgences. And of course, there’s the skincare… a daily reminder that a good cream can, in fact, solve almost everything!  What’s a wallpaper or fabric you are dying to use in a project?  Tough question because there are so many that are on our radar but I recently stumbled across the most adorable wallpaper by Jordan Connelly  that would be the perfect addition to a  family vacation home. Favorite coffee table book? Well, at the moment , we are gushing over the most recent Atlanta Homes & Lifestyle magazine because Huff Harrington Design made the cover! What is your most requested design feature?   ‘The Mix’ of new  & old The mix – layering new with old to create spaces that feel collected, not decorated. It’s about balancing contemporary pieces with character-rich antiques to achieve spaces that are timeless, personal, and truly lived-in.

Coley Home Spotlight: Megan Molten

Meet Megan! Based in Charleston, SC, she's the Founder and Chief Creative Director of Megan Molten Design + Shop. With her signature mix of modern flair and Southern charm, Megan creates bright, welcoming spaces that feel like home. We’re obsessed with her eye for detail and love how she brought her Coley Home favorites to life in her serene, family-friendly living room. Tell us about yourself and your journey to a successful interior design business and storefront! I studied business and marketing in school and, right out of college, landed a great job in medical sales. I spent 12 years in that industry, which gave me the opportunity to purchase my first home on my own. When I started designing and decorating my home, I shared the process on social media, and to my surprise, people loved it! I never realized I had a distinct style until I started receiving such a positive response. Around that time—when I was 31 or 32—many of my friends were also buying their first homes and asking for my help. We were all working with tight budgets, but I documented every project, sharing before-and-afters on social media. Again, people really responded to my aesthetic, and that’s when it started to click for me—I truly loved design. I never imagined it would become my career, but as I started taking on paid clients in addition to my full-time job, I realized: Wait, this is what I love. My corporate job? Not so much. I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time. Charleston was booming, especially during COVID, and people were moving here in droves. I was able to establish a strong brand and a signature design aesthetic, which has been key to our success. It’s authentic to who I am and what we do, and I think people are drawn to that. Today, we have a luxury interior design business serving Charleston and beyond, as well as a retail store—both a brick-and-mortar location and an online shop. We’ve also expanded to include a warehouse where we manage our online store and house merchandise for our design clients. And beyond that, we have licensed collections in lighting, mirrors, wallpaper, and more to come! What’s your starting point when designing a living room? Do you typically begin with furniture, color, or something else? Lately, we’ve been starting with wallpaper, paint, or a fabric print because clients are craving color more than ever. Once we establish that focal point, the rest of the room naturally falls into place. How do you find the balance between aesthetics and functionality when designing frequently used spaces like living rooms? These days, performance fabric is a must. Almost all of our clients expect it on their upholstery—it’s just become standard. The great thing about working with a designer is that we have access to an incredible variety of high-end performance fabrics that aren’t available to the average consumer. So, we can create spaces that are both beautiful and incredibly durable. Our clients have kids, grandkids, pets—they live an indoor-outdoor lifestyle, especially here in Charleston. Everything we design has to stand up to that while still looking stunning. It’s all about finding that perfect balance of style and function. What is one design element or trend you always try to incorporate into your projects, no matter the size or scope? When clients hire us, they expect creativity and personalization. It’s our job to push them beyond their comfort zone and introduce ideas they wouldn’t have considered on their own. That’s part of the value we bring! We don’t want to do what everyone else is doing—we want to create something fresh, unique, and exciting. What are your favorite areas to splurge when decorating your home, and favorite places to save? Lighting—splurge always! It’s like jewelry for your home. You want the real thing, not the knockoff. There’s a noticeable difference between good lighting and bad lighting, and if you cut corners here, it shows. For key spaces like kitchen pendants, dining room chandeliers, and powder bath sconces, invest in high-quality lighting—it makes all the difference. But in areas like guest rooms, guest baths, and kids’ rooms, you can save by opting for stylish but more affordable options, like Mitzi lighting. Another area where you should never skimp? Upholstery. Your main furniture pieces—your sofa, your chairs—these are things you use every single day. It’s like a mattress; you want it to be high quality, comfortable, and built to last. Other categories can go either way. With wallpaper, for example, you can splurge on grasscloth or save with vinyl. For rugs, wool is a luxury option, but polypropylene can be a great budget-friendly alternative. It’s all about knowing where to invest and where to cut costs. What are your go-to places for inspiration when designing new spaces? Our sample library is a huge source of inspiration. We receive so many incredible materials—wallpapers, fabrics, finishes—and we’re always waiting for the perfect project to use them in. I also love drawing inspiration from a project’s location. For example, if we’re designing a home in the Bahamas, we take in the colors of the palm leaves, the ocean, the sand, and think, Oh my gosh, this is the perfect project for that lime-green palm print wallpaper we’ve been dying to use! Color is such a huge part of our design process, especially in Charleston, but exploring other places and seeing how different environments influence color is a really fun way to get inspired. What are your favorite Coley Home pieces to incorporate in a living room? The Upholstered Bennett Sofa—hands down! We’re actually using it in a project right now with Lilly Pulitzer and Lee Jofa. It’s upholstered in the new Lilly fabric, and we added the cutest little skirt to give it a fresh, modern take on a traditional shape. It’s perfection. I also love the Loza Chair. We’ve used it in a few projects now—it’s big, cozy, and oversized but still has that modern silhouette. That’s what I love about Coley Home—they take classic shapes and reimagine them in a fresh, modern way. Plus, everything is made in North Carolina, which our clients love.

Coley Home Spotlight: Caroline Boykin

Meet Caroline! Based out of Raleigh, NC, Caroline creates the most incredible artwork, from intricate paintings to delicate sculptures. Read on to learn all about Caroline and how she styled her Coley Home pieces. Tell us about yourself and how you got to where you are today! Hey Coley Home! I am Caroline Reehl Boykin, a fine artist based in Raleigh, North Carolina and my work is inspired by the spirit of everyday life. For the past 15 years I have had the honor of creating artwork for clients all over the world. My paintings are filled with elements of nature, architecture, and form using many mediums. I find that unique color interactions within my paintings capture viewers and bring them into a conversation of life and movement. Through the use of porcelain, acrylic paint, and gold and silver leaf, I paint multi-dimensional works that transcend a subject and allow the viewer to decipher meaning. I have always loved to create. My childhood on the Alabama coast cultivated my enchantment with art and southern culture. Touches of this admiration for Southern hospitality and grandeur are seen today flowing through my paintings. While in college, a summer of studying figure drawing in Florence, Italy led me to the realization that being an artist was in my bones. I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Mississippi (Hotty Toddy!!) where I focused on ceramics, but I have always had a true passion for all mediums in art. Today I am blessed to have my studio right here in my home so that I can jump between businesswoman and momma easily. My husband, two girls, and bulldog, Blue, provide me with as much support as they do inspiration to my paintings! Caroline's Website How would you describe your artistic style in your own words? My work is rooted in the rituals of everyday life - morning light, the scent and shapes of flowers from our garden, my girls' infectious giggles, or an ice-cold martini my husband makes me after a long week. These moments are sacred rhythms woven into my paintings. I think my artistic style is a nice combination of Modern and Feminine. How do you approach mixing color and texture in your pieces? Color and texture are such important aspects of my work! In my Le Pointe collection, mixed color combinations are the foundation and the starting point of each painting. Once the squares of color are chosen for the painting, I then come back with more colors but in small marks to create a dance between the squares. When mixing the paint for these marks, I whip my paint to a frosting-like consistency to create little dots of texture. This mesmerizing texture creates the smallest shadows that move throughout the day as light moves across the painting. Caroline used a pair of Bongo Stools in COM (Customer's Own Material) to create the perfect accent pieces for her living room! Where do you personally look for inspiration? Everywhere! Small and simple moments inspire me most as of late. There is beauty surrounding us always, we just have to take the time to find it. This is what I want the viewer to feel when taking in my artwork. To admire the painting with an exhale and to get lost in a memory. I find myself within each scene of my Pout paintings. Do you have any tips for mixing art with furniture and decor in a room? My only tip is to purchase art that you love, and not just because it matches your couch! I find a home much more inviting and beautiful when it is filled with interesting art. What are your favorite areas to splurge when decorating your home, and favorite places to save? My favorite places to splurge and save are the same - antiques! Sometimes you find the save of the century in an antique chandelier or the biggest splurge in an antique Klimt sofa. Whether a splurge or a save, antiques are always necessary. Is there anything more fun than the thrill of the hunt? Most treasured piece in your home (besides your own art)? We have the cover of my great grandmother's bible framed and hung in our kitchen. My great grandmother Leavie, whom my oldest is named after, was born in the late 1800s and I inherited her bible which was so loved and used that it was held together by duct tape. We (very carefully!) took off the cover that is inscribed with her name and framed it in a gorgeous antique frame. It brings me so much joy to see it every day, a sweet reminder of my beloved family and what a matriarch looks like. What is your favorite spring or summer recipe? Food or cocktail! So many! We love to eat in my house! In the spring and summer, it’s anything made with in-season produce from our local Farmer's Market. We also love a skinny Piña Colada for a fun cocktail/mocktail around the pool. It's just blended coconut water, a little pineapple juice, pineapple chunks, and ice. When my girls aren't partaking, a splash of rum makes it even tastier! Thanks, Caroline!

I always have sunglasses, my wallet, a lipgloss and a few extra pacifiers in my bag to get me through the day.  Favorite winter/cold weather recipe (dish or cocktail, your choice!) Meet Jamie Kirkman, founder of Jamie Kirkman Interiors! Jamie takes a pragmatic and creative approach to her designs, incorporating custom furnishings, special collections, and curated art. With over 25 years of experience, Jamie has perfected her design techniques and was recently featured in the Atlanta Home For The Holidays Show house. She featured Coley Home chairs in the dining room and we are obsessed with how they turned out! Read on to see how she styled her Coley Home pieces in the show house. Tell us about yourselves & how you got to where you are today! I've always been drawn to creating spaces that feel both beautiful and lived in, and my path into interior design began through hands-on learning and mentorship. Today, my approach is all about understanding my client and their personalities, how they move through their homes, and what matters most to them. I believe the best design reflects who you are while elevating your everyday life. I feel incredibly fortunate to do work I'm passionate about alongside clients who trust me with their most personal spaces. You recently selected (6) Evans Dining Chairs in COM with Mont Blanc, Blush Welt, and Bleached Oak Finish, as well as (2) Evans Dining Chairs in Miller, Taupe with a Mont Blanc, Blush welt, and Bleached Oak Finish for your Dining Space in the Atlanta Home for the Holidays Showhouse. Walk us through the design process!  The lines of the Evans chairs were exactly what I wanted for the showhouse dining chairs. We then selected fabrics that could stand out against other beautiful features in the room while complementing the chairs' style. The geometric pattern on the COM chairs worked perfectly with the small scale of Miller Taupe, while the Blush Welt tied the chairs together to create a cohesive design. The Evans Dining Chair - COM The evans dining chair - Miller, Taupe with a Mont Blanc, Blush welt Do you have any tips for selecting the perfect COM for a space?  When choosing COM fabrics, I focus on the room's function first, selecting options that are both beautiful and durable enough for daily use, helping clients find something they truly love and that suits their lifestyle. How would you describe your style?  I'd describe my style as refined organic luxury. I love layering natural elements like wood, stone, and greenery with sophisticated details like brass fixtures and sculptural lighting. I aim for spaces that feel both curated and livable, while reflecting the client’s personality and lifestyle. What is the most important detail when designing a dining room? Lighting is everything. It sets the entire mood for gathering and entertaining. Beautiful ambient lighting that makes everyone look and feel their best. The table should allow for comfortable conversation with chairs that are comfortable enough that guests actually want to sit in for hours, and the overall space should encourage people to linger and feel the atmosphere. What is your favorite space that you have designed in your personal home?  I love our primary bedroom. It's calming and restorative, designed as a true sanctuary with minimal furnishings and a soft, soothing palette. What are your go to places for inspiration when designing a new space? I love flipping through design books and following European interiors on Instagram for fresh perspectives. What is your favorite coffee table book? John Derian Picture Book There's something about his eye for beauty in the overlooked that really resonates with me. Thank you, Jamie!

Meet Jamie Kirkman, founder of Jamie Kirkman Interiors!

Meet Cathy Rhodes of Cathy Rhodes Interiors! Cathy is a fabulous designer who was recently featured in the Atlanta Home For The Holiday’s Show house. We loved hearing about her design process and the small details she uses to make her spaces spectacular. Read on to learn how Cathy styled her Coley Home pieces!  Tell us about yourselves & how you got to where you are today! I started my design firm in 2001 and have been designing elegant homes in the southeast ever since.  With an MBA from Vanderbilt and 9 years in corporate finance I decided to turn my weekend hobby into a career. You recently selected The Claremont Bed - Monarch, the Dakota Dining Chair and The Shiitake Ottomans in your space in the Atlanta Home for the Holidays Show House. Walk us through the design process! My inspiration for this guest bedroom was my two grown daughters who now live in NYC.  Thinking about redesigning my daughter’s childhood bedrooms into more sophisticated guest bedrooms that they look forward to coming home to stay in.  I wanted to create a tranquil oasis for my daughters and other guests.. Lavender is such a calm color and is wonderful for a guest room because its somewhat unexpected.  I selected the Galbraith and Paul Fern pattern first and worked with Liz Galbraith to custom color the fabric in the perfect shades of lilac and lavender.  And then we found two other Galbraith and Paul fabrics that we could add in touches of soft greens and blues. Selecting a beautiful bed was next.  The scalloped Claremont Bed was perfect because the scallop detail added the feminine touch I was looking for.  Upholstering it in Holland Sherry’s velvet mohair gave it the coziness I envisioned.  The Dakota Dining Chair works beautifully as a desk chair.  And the Shiitake Ottomans are just fun and can go anywhere in a room.  I have used them in many clients’ homes and just love them.  They are fun at the foot of this bed but can also be pulled into a dressing room or a dressing table or used as an ottoman with your favorite reading chair. What is your favorite thing about designing for a  show house? How is it different from designing for clients? Show houses are an opportunity to truly display your creativity without any restrictions.  It's the chance to do something a little daring and unique. What is your starting point when designing a bedroom?  For a bedroom I always start with a beautiful fabric that can set the tone for the room.   What is a small detail you always include in bedrooms you design?  I always include a pretty long pillow on the bed in addition to the shams. What are your go-to places for bed linens?  Gramercy Home is my favorite.  They carry many beautiful bedding lines including Matouk and Sferra and they are so easy to work with. Where do you splurge vs. save in the bedroom? I usually splurge on the drapery and the decorative bedding because it has the biggest impact on a bedroom.  If we need to save then I like to save on the sheets by buying simple white sheets to go with the pretty decorative duvet and shams.  What is your favorite space in your home?  My favorite space in my home is my dressing hall because its my pretty little retreat from the rest of the house and I love starting my day there. What is a design trend you hope stays forever? Lucite!  I love lucite pieces because they add a modern touch when you need it to a traditional space and its the ideal material when you need something that is not too heavy and will not take away from other things in the room. Just like the lucite etagere in this guest bedroom. What is your favorite coffee table book? The Decorated Home by Meg Braff.  The photos are beautiful and the way she wrote about each project feels like you are sitting in her living room have a casual conversation about design.  She’s a great college friend of mine so I love seeing how her personality shines through in her book. Thank you, Cathy!

Meet Crystal! Based in Charlotte, NC, with her husband and three children, she’s the creative behind Garden & Grace—your go-to for elegant, classic home and garden inspiration. We love her traditional yet effortless style! Read the blog to learn all about Crystal and how she styled her Coley Home pieces in her little boy's bedroom.  Tell us about yourself and what inspired you to start Garden & Grace?  Hi! I’m Crystal Moore, founder of Garden & Grace, a lifestyle brand focused on classic living. My biggest joy is being a mom to three young kids and sharing this life with my high school sweetheart and husband of 10 years in our hometown of Charlotte, NC. With an unconventional path, filled with a career in healthcare administration, I started Garden & Grace during covid as a creative outlet and with no real business plan. But as the daughter of a home builder and a lifelong architecture enthusiast (heightened by my time living in Birmingham, AL and Chicago, IL), I’ve always loved everything about a home and what it represents. Almost 4 years later,  I still pinch myself that I get to share this passion with the Garden & Grace community. You recently redecorated your son’s room. Walk us through the design process!  We moved into our home two years ago, right before I had my third, and my oldest son’s bedroom was such an afterthought. I knew I would want to go back and give him a proper room and finally got around to it just shy of his 6th birthday! I started with combing through inspiration I had saved through the years and noticed  a recurring theme of Americana-style rooms. So I started with a framed vintage American flag and tattersall rug, two quintessential design elements to define the room.  I used those elements to select the fabric for my son’s  Coley Home headboards and from there layered on bedding, lighting and other decor.  Get the Look The Twin Crown Headboard - Charles in Nola, Blue with Belgian Linen, Dark Blue Welt Shop Now What advice do you have for anyone who might be in the process of redecorating a kids’ room?  Designed by Clary Bosbyshell Start with the pieces that you can’t stop thinking about and build your design from there. And don’t get caught up in creating the perfect room with everything you see in a room on Instagram or Pinterest. Most are staged and designed without a budget. Remember, kids will use their room so design it with that in mind! Finding a reliable contact for a home project can be challenging. How do you go about sourcing professionals for your Trusted List of Home Experts? Designed by Anne Pearson Design, Photography by Dustin Peck Photography The Garden & Grace Directory was born out of the constant request from followers for good, reliable home professionals in their cities. It’s now a trusted source with over 45 professionals recommended by a trusted designer, friend or that I’ve personally used. It’s all about curating a mix of professionals for any project all that exemplify honesty, quality work and align with the Garden & Grace style. It’s still new (just over a year old!) so I’m excited to see how it continues to grow and be a trusted source for home projects. Interested companies can apply here. What is your most requested product from your followers? Designed by Whitney Sturge Interiors, Photography by Dustin Peck Photography Lighting! Whether a side table lamp, pleated lamp shade or pendants over a kitchen island, it’s a popular topic and one I love to share!  What are your favorite areas to splurge when decorating your home, and favorite places to save? Design by Caroline Gidiere Design Design by James Farmer Inc, Photography by Upholstery and rugs, hands down. I like to buy those new and to last. They anchor the room and everything else falls in around them. I usually source accessories and artwork from antique malls and estate sales – which can lead to some really good deals and unique pieces! Favorite spring recipe? My signature dish, year round but especially this time of year,  are deviled eggs. I add a touch of dijon mustard, finely chopped dill pickles and sprinkle with paprika to top them off.  They always go fast!

Coley Home Spotlight: Erin Kestenbaum

Meet Erin! Based in Connecticut, her incredible eye for both photography and interior design has us instantly inspired! Read to learn all about Erin and her fabulous taste! Tell us about yourself! I am a Canadian who now lives in a 1940's Colonial home in coastal Connecticut. My husband and I have been renovating our home room by room over the past six years, sharing the process on my blog. We have loved bringing character back to our eighty year old home through lots of hands-on projects. You have an affinity for both design and photography. Tell us how you were able to merge two of your passions! Photography has been a passion of mine since college, where I eventually found myself in interiors photography, which I love so much. I love how you can bring a space to life and capture it for others to experience, as well as collaboration with designers. For design, I always approach a room with the final images in mind, ensuring that all the sightlines tell a story and showcase the personality of the space. How would you describe your design style? My aesthetic is pretty traditional, with a more streamlined, modern bent. I love using lots of color, pattern, and texture to create layered spaces that feel collected over time, and often feature a heavy dose of vintage furniture. I am very focused on functionality as well, as every space needs to work functionally, ahead of the more fun, aesthetic choices.  You have done an incredible job breathing new life into your Connecticut Colonial. Any words of wisdom for those who are about to embark on the fixer upper journey? Absolutely! I would recommend selecting classic materials for hard finishes, where I do find that more modern options can feel dated more quickly. I also would not shy away from color, as it completely changes the feeling of a room as paint is the fastest way to make your home feel your own. There are a few things I wish I had decided out of the gate, like determining the trim profiles for casing, baseboards, etc. at the start, so that there was consistent millwork throughout, adding soundproofing into walls when they were open, and upgrading all our switches to one chic style out of the gate. I would lean into the process and ensure you're making at least one choice in every room that gives you pause, as I can guarantee those little risks are what you will love most at the end. The Dibs Chair was the finishing touch to your son’s nursery! Walk us through your thought process as you customize your chair!  We are obsessed with the Dibs Chair! After my son previously coexisted alongside some darker, non-performance fabric upholstered pieces in our home, it was immediately clear that babies and toddlers are best suited to lighter colored fabrics with some serious performance properties. So, the Nomad, Snow fabric was the perfect choice to hold up to his sticky fingers, with its Crypton treatment. I love how the creamy color highlights the arched shape of the chair against our blue grasscloth. I wanted to play up the shape of the arms with some subtle Luxe Velvet, White piping that brings in a new texture as well, and the Ebony legs were chosen to pop off the light blue rug. Our Dibs Chair has held up great to an active toddler and has been the perfect size for our petite nursery - the footprint is great for the small space, but is also big enough for an adult and a toddler at bedtime. The Dibs Chair in Nomad, Snow with Luxe Velvet, White Welt Now for the design of the room! Give us a little background on how the room has transformed over the years. Can you share some of the sources for the design elements in the room? Up until my son was born, this space served as my tiny light and airy home office and featured Chinoiserie wallpaper, a large vintage rug, and an antique wood desk dating back to the 1800's. When my son was born, we moved my office and all my prized antiques to another space in our home and transformed this room into his nursery. To completely change the vibe of the space, I painted the trim and ceiling in Farrow & Ball Oval Room Blue, wallpapered the walls in a Robin's Egg Blue Wallpaper from Annie Selke, added a blue wool rug from Annie Selke, and a flush mount fixture from Circa Lighting. To furnish the space, we added a wood crib from Nestig, a vintage campaign dresser that we refinished while living in our first apartment seven years ago, and our Dibs Chair. I wanted this space to feel calming and quiet for both us and our very busy son, and the entire vibe feels very soothing now. I can't believe how effective paint and wallpaper can be at transforming a space. Favorite places to find design inspiration? Travel, Instagram, and TV shows.  3 favorite people to follow on Instagram? Favorite recipe at the moment? Korean Braised Short Ribs - so easy to make, and are perfect for dinner parties since you can prepare them in advance and warm them up to serve them (and they taste even better than if they were freshly made!) Dream travel destination? I have been dreaming about taking a beach vacation to Harbor Island in the Bahamas (with a stay at the Dunmore!).

How to Mix Patterns, Color and Texture in Your Home

Looking for a lively way to incorporate pattern, color, and maybe even texture in your home but don’t want to go overboard? Here are a few tips to help you leave those fears in the past. Keep on reading to see how to use Coley Home's fabrics to maximize your space! Mixing Patterns with Colors: Many people tend to be hesitant when it comes to decorating with patterns. They are afraid it will be too much and aren’t sure where to begin. So...how do you mix colors and patterns?   The answer is simple: choose your colors and start from there. We love to stick with the 60-30-10 rule, which consists of using 60% your primary color, 30% your secondary color, and 10% an accent color.    When choosing your colors, a color wheel is key for determining your undertones and coordinating pigments. You might be surprised what looks good together! Below are a few of our favorite unexpected patterned and solid fabric combinations here at Coley Home. Bloom, Jade and Italian Blend, Grape: Bloom, Jade has quickly become one of our most popular patterned fabrics and for a great reason. This beautiful, traditional print is ideal when it comes to incorporating new colors. We love it paired with our Italian Blend, Grape, which is a gorgeous, vibrant purple.    What we use it for: The timeless Bloom, Jade with Italian Blend, Grape piping would produce a stunning Crown Bed for any room in your home. Safari, Khaki and Como, Rockstar:   We have always enjoyed playing around with Safari, Khaki to see what exciting combinations we could come up with! We adore it with Como, Rockstar. These two together are a wonderful way to incorporate a bright color and fun pattern into a room.  What we use it for: This vivacious duo would work perfectly for a mountain lodge or a little boy’s room. Safari, Khaki with Como, Rockstar piping would look great as a Teeny Swivel or Teeny Dining Chair paired with the Porter Side Table upholstered in our new Puddle Proof, Dove fabric.   Bungalow, Marine and Italian Blend, Navy: Looking for the perfect mix of a stimulating pattern with a rich solid? Bungalow, Marine and Italian Blend, Navy are exactly that. These two fabrics create a fabulous statement piece in any room.    What we use it for: If you’re looking to amplify your dining area, a Teeny Dining Chair in Bungalow, Marine with Italian Blend, Navy piping is the way to go! This pair would also do well as decorative pillows, which you can design in our pillow shop. Bamboo, Red Rocks and Italian Blend, Caribbean Blue: Trying to incorporate a subtle pattern in your home? This bright and lively combo is the best way to do so. While Bamboo, Red Rocks has a pattern, it is easily balanced out with the red and blue tones found in these fabrics!  What we use it for: Bamboo, Red Rocks with Italian Blend, Caribbean Blue piping is a great combination for a Crown Headboard or Teeny Swivel in a child’s bedroom.  Color and Texture: While mixing colors and textures might not seem like such a daunting task, it can still be challenging. So now we are here to answer the question, how do you mix color and texture fabrics?  Our favorite way to make sure we are mixing the right colors and textures is by pairing them within the same color family! We have a variety of different types of fabric, including our new leather collection, which allows us to be creative when combining different textures.   Como, Blush and Raffia, Bashful: Looking for a combination that is soft and sweet? These two fabrics are just what you need. Pairing our cozy Como, Blush with our durable Raffia, Bashful creates the perfect balance of texture for any space.  What we use it for: This chic duo works well as a Porter Side Table, Teeny Dining or Teeny Swivel Chair. It would be ideal in an office space or little girl’s room. Como, Kelly Green and Luxe Velvet, Olive: Green has been such a popular trend throughout 2021! Our Como, Kelly Green mixed with our Luxe Velvet, Olive is an easy way to keep your home up to date and in style.   What we use it for: This combination creates an instant elegant feel when styled on our Crown Headboard. It also is fabulous when put together on a Teeny Dining Chair in a home office. In reality, it looks great when paired together on any furniture! Belgian Linen, Oatmeal and Luxe Velvet, Sand: You can never go wrong with mixing textures in neutral colors. That is what makes this combination so fantastic! Piping Belgian Linen, Oatmeal with Luxe Velvet, Sand is a great way to add extra zest to these sweet, neutral tones.   What we use it for: It has never been easier to style a space than with this duo! It’s optimal for neutral bedrooms as a Crown Bed or for Teeny Dining Chairs in a breakfast nook.  Italian Blend, Navy and Raffia, Navy: Looking for that perfect, dark neutral for your home? Look no further! Raffia, Navy with Italian Blend, Navy piping is your solution. This durable, upholstered duo is unmatched when it comes to decorating any space.   What we use it for: This combination makes a beautiful Porter Side Table. It also does well as Teeny Swivel or Teeny Dining Chairs! You could even use this mix when customizing upholstered ottomans, like the Lil Ottoman for your bathroom. The durability of the Raffia fabric is great for spills that can happen in your home.

How to Care for your Sheets

There is nothing quite like slipping into cloud-like sheets at the end of a long day! However, sometimes it can be tricky to keep them white, bright, and stain free. So if you’re looking for tips on keeping your bedding clean, you have come to the right place.   At Coley Home, our Bedding Bundle is one of our favorite products. These 500 thread count sheets detailed with charcoal piping are all you need to make certain that you will have a good night's sleep every night. That being said, we want to make sure that they last as long as possible. We have thought of a few tips and tricks to ensure that yours do too! Treat Stains ASAP  Coffee in bed is our favorite way to start the day! Spilling coffee on our bed...not so much. No worries though, because it is an easy fix. Treat stains immediately using a water-free solvent, like The Laundress Stain Solution! Minerals in water could possibly leave unwanted rings around the stain.  Don’t Overstuff the Washer  Washing your sheets alone is key in prolonging their lifespan. We know throwing everything in at once is time saving, but avoid overstuffing the washing machine with towels and clothes. You may risk snags from zippers along with color bleeding. Remember, the more water, the better!  Say No to Heat  Have you noticed your sheets are fitting too loosely? It is probably because you are washing them in hot water too often. While washing on hot is great for killing bacteria after you are sick, too much heat actually weakens the fibers of the sheets, decreasing their lifetime. Make sure that you are washing them weekly in warm/cold water. Dry on low heat and remove ASAP to help prevent wrinkles. Skip the Bleach  Believe it or not, bleach can actually wear down the fibers in the sheets and cause yellowing over time. We suggest adding about a half-cup of either white vinegar or baking soda to your normal laundry detergent.  Try Adding Some Vitamin D  Sun is not only good for yourself, but it is also great for your sheets! Take advantage of the next sunny day you have and allow your bedding to air-dry in the sun. You should notice a bright boost from the natural sunlight.  Grab a Spare! Are you wondering what to do about any major stains that could happen and could take days to treat effectively? Our best piece of advice is to make sure that you always have an extra set of bedding! Not only does it ensure you will always have a clean bundle, but it’s an easy way to make sure it lasts longer.

The Crown Bed 101

It's true. The Crown Bed is unlike any bed you've ever seen before!  The secret ingredients? Our durable foam slipcovered headboard, our easy-to-assemble upholstered bed frame, and our diverse collection of high quality fabrics sourced from some of the finest mills around the world. Read through these FAQs to learn a little more about our Crown Bed!   Q: How will my bed arrive?A: The Crown Bed arrives in UPS boxes directly to your front door. There is a separate box for the custom upholstered bed frame, slipcovered headboard, and mattress. (Our memory foam mattress is sold separately from the Crown Bed).    Our crown headboard is compressed into a small box and shipped via UPS in less than 10 days. Q: The headboard arrives in a box? How does it work?A: Our custom slipcovered headboard is made of durable, expanding foam. We compress it in our facility to fit inside the UPS box. Once it arrives at your door, remove the packaging, and let it expand. Watch it resiliently come back to life, then slip on your custom cover and place against your wall. See this video to watch the magic happen!       Q: Does the headboard attach to the bed frame?A: No! Because it is constructed of extremely durable (but still lightweight) foam, the headboard stands up with support of your wall and the bed frame. Once installed tightly between your bed frame and wall, it will not shift or move. It truly works like magic! Q: What's the turn-around time?A: Once your order is placed, the Crown Bed ships out in about 10 business days or less. To put it in perspective, typical custom upholstered furniture can take 6-8 weeks (or longer) to arrive!       Q: I already have a bed frame. Can I just order a headboard?A: Of course! Our Crown Headboard is compatible with most standard bed frames. Just add your favorite bed skirt! Plus, if you prefer the sleek "bed frame only" look, we offer that as well!   Q: Do I need a box spring with The Crown Bed Frame? A: No! The bed frame is platform and comes with supportive slats, so no box spring is needed. Q: How much room is under the bed for storage?A: 9.25 inches from the floor to the frame. Q: What if I get a stain?A: Don't sweat it! We suggest using a mild water-free solvent to spot clean stains. The Laundress makes a great one! For an overall clean, we suggest dry cleaning your slipcover. Q: Do you offer any performance fabrics?A: Yes! Each of our Luxe Velvets are performance along with the Rattan, Natural. Q: Why are some fabrics more expensive than others?A: While all of our fabrics are sourced from some of the finest mills around the globe, some are just a little bit more luxurious than others. We carry 4 grades: A, B, C, and D. A is the most economical and D is the most luxurious!     Q: How do I start designing? There are so many choices!A: Order a set of 6 free swatches! See and feel the fabrics in your own home before making your final decision. Select fabrics for your slipcover, piping detail, and throw pillows! Other questions? Spruce Up your Guest Bedroom

Change out your sheets. Nothing is more welcoming than soft, smooth sheets. Purchase a designated set (or two) just for your guest bedroom. Make sure they do not get used in any other bedroom in your house so they keep longer for your guests. Actually, change out everything! Maybe your throw pillows are getting old and musty, or you’re using your quilt and bedding from college. Time to take a visit to the Custom Pillow Shop! Choose from 30+ fabrics for your own custom pillow! Clear out space in the closet and dresser drawers. If you are like us, you probably use your guest room for extra storage. Take this time to organize your own items within the closet and dresser drawers. Try putting everything in opaque or wicker containers. Make sure to leave more than enough space in the closet for your guests to hang up their own clothes, and leave at least two dresser drawers empty. Remember, if you haven’t used it in the past year, it is probably time to donate. Tend to your bedside table. First off - make sure you have one! Nothing is worse than having nowhere to put a glass of water. Place a catch-all for jewelry, glasses, cufflinks, etc. Grab a little bud vase, ready for a fresh stem, and stack up a few favorite books and magazines. If you really want to impress, place one of your favorite candles in the room for a little added comfort. Our favorite scents are Diptyque Baies and Jo Malone Lime Basil & Mandarin. Give the room an instant face lift! We realize not all budgets allow for an entirely new bed - especially a bed that isn’t slept in on a daily basis! If you already have a standard bed frame, our Crown Headboard is a budget-friendly and easy way to take your bedroom from drab to fab. Now it is really time to “Grow Up and Buy a Headboard” - for the sake of your guests! Gather some essentials that your guests may forget when traveling. An extra phone charger, travel shampoo + conditioner, some extra tooth brushes and mini toothpaste are all good to keep on-hand just in case.
